I have great news, everybody. 

I probably gave it away with the title, but you read correctly. Midwife to Destiny will soon be an audio-book. The narrator is Mark Rossman and he's fantastic. I’m listening to the story as he produces them so I can catch any mistakes or mispronunciations, and I am falling in love with my own book again. Mark isn’t just reading the novel, he's acting it out and it’s so exciting to listen to.

Makes me wonder what it would look like on the big screen. Yeah, that would be awesome.

So keep a lookout for Midwife to Destiny in audio.

How I got my book to #1 on the Amazon #Bestseller list

Midwife to Destiny, the first book in the Destiny African Romance Series was released on February 21, 2014 by Decadent Publishing. During that time I took the book on blog tours and used social media as a marketing tool. The most important thing I did was to take successful authors’ advice and wrote more books. Now there are three in the series and a fourth one (Destiny Awakened) coming out this year.

An author’s most pressing question is how to get their book in front of the masses so that they can decide if they want to buy it or not. For me that answer came in the form of BookBub.

I was so happy when BookBub approved Midwife to Destiny. Why? Because as book promoters they have an extensive reach. I doubt that there’s anyone who has ever put their book on sale and listed with BookBub not seen a rise in their Amazon ranking.

On August 18^th Midwife to Destiny was featured with BookBub as being on sale for 99 cents under African American Interest. It didn’t take long for my Amazon ranking got start heading toward the lower numbers. Can we say excitement? The next day this is what I saw on Amazon:

People chose to buy Midwife to Destiny which, drove it up the ranks. I think that's because my book is:

2. Has a fabulous cover (Thanks Tibbs Design)

I am now an Amazon Bestseller.

The best part is that people also bought the other two books in the series, which I also put on sale. And my book Love Undercover, by a different publisher, also felt the effects and rose in rank.

I invested $150 with BookBub. Even though I have no idea how many books I sold, but I’m glad that I did it because they definitely know how to deliver.

Books Would Suck without Good Editors #EditorsRock

Yes this is my official opinion on the subject. It's one of the problems some indie writers have. They think they can get by without external editing. Most of us know that they are wrong.

I always sing the praises of Zee Monodee, my editor for Midwife to Destiny. She taught me how to show vs. tell, and how to dig into the emotions of the character. She made my book, well… good. Not that it sucked before she got her hands on it and had my stomach twisting into knots of anxiety, but it kind of did.

I thank all the editors I’ve worked with for their tireless work and willingness to take the chance at evoking my wrath to tell me I was wrong about something and make me see how it could be better. My glass of champagne (the expensive kind, nothing cheap for my editors) is raised to Zee, Faith, Lauri, Lisa, Meghan, Judi, and, Lucy for helping me create books I’m proud to have people read.

Long live good editors and may they resist pulling their hair out when dealing with authors. Cheers.

To series or not to series? #Romance #Writing

I never thought I’d be a series writer.  Do you know how much pressure there is on writing a second book in a line? A lot. When I wrote Midwife to Destiny I thought it would be a single book. And then my editor casually mentioned that I should think about a second book.

Of course once planted, the idea sprouted and then grew. I ended up with the tree of Destiny Mine. The story of Ora’s cousin, Esi. She was so much fun to write in Midwife to Destiny. Spunky, adventuresome, and a tad bit over the top. I paired her with Adam, Jason’s best friend. Adam is an alpha to the core. Worse, he can’t stand being involved in relationships, in other words he’s a player.

When I put these two characters together there were fireworks. Enough for me to leave the sweet subgenre of romance and venture into opening the door to the bedroom.

Writing the Destiny Series was one of the best things I’ve ever done and I’m glad I didn’t let fear of being a flop stop me. In fact it spurred me on.The third in the series, Entwined Destiny, is due to hit the bookstores soon. So keep a look out.

Midwife to Destiny

This story was so touching, tender and steeped with goodness. I loved the natural, real feeling of the characters, settings and plot. Some characters in romances are cardboard cut-outs. These characters are unique, real and deep. I loved reading about how Ora had to face up to her deep-seated fears and pain. I loved the process she went on.
