Midwife to Destiny is coming out on audio

I have great news, everybody.

I probably gave it away with the title, but you read correctly. Midwife to Destiny will soon be an audio-book. The narrator is Mark Rossman and he's fantastic. I’m listening to the story as he produces them so I can catch any mistakes or mispronunciations, and I am falling in love with my own book again. Mark isn’t just reading the novel, he's acting it out and it’s so exciting to listen to.

Makes me wonder what it would look like on the big screen. Yeah, that would be awesome.
So keep a lookout for Midwife to Destiny in audio.

For those who like to read with your eyes and not with your ears, Midwife to Destiny is on sale for 99 cents on Amazon.  There are three more books in the Destiny African Romance Series so feel free to pick them all up and enjoy a taste of Africa.

Destiny Awakened Excerpt © Nana Prah 2016

She pointed to an arbor standing to the side of the pond. “They can get married over there with the archway draped with flowers.”
Kamal stumbled backwards when their gazes met. Afraid he’d fall, Gloria reached out and grabbed his arm.
“I didn’t even notice it,” he said as he focused on the gazebo. He looped his arm around her shoulders. “It’s almost like the one I mentioned earlier.”
Gloria wrapped her arm around his waist, molding her body into his side. It’s only to provide him with support since he nearly collapsed a moment ago. How come she never wanted to let go?
Awe still filled his voice as he walked them closer to the pond. “It’s just what I imagined.”
Never had she thought she’d be standing in her precious garden in the embrace of the one man she’d ever desired. When he gazed down into her eyes the air rushed out of her lungs. The need to kiss him overpowered her common sense as she licked her lips.
One moment, Gloria anticipated the second-best kiss of her life by the man who’d made her toes curl with his first. The next moment found her stumbling forward as he released her. What the hell?

Excerpt
Adjoa’s polite knuckle knock hadn’t worked, so her fist had to meet the door. He could sleep through anything. “Kwame, it’s me.”

When the door swung open, her eyes met a tall, sexy man with no shirt. The sprinkling of dark curly hair on his well-muscled chest forced her fingers to grip the handle of her bag so she wouldn’t reach out to stroke him.

A bicep flexed as he reached up to rub his eye. She’d always been a sucker for a man with a well-toned body, and this one met all of her muscle criteria.

Her gaze roamed up to the face scowling down at her. Holy crap. It was Kwame’s body she’d been ogling. She pushed past him so he couldn’t see her blush and headed into the kitchen. Grabbing a bottle of water from the fridge, she gulped it down. It didn’t come close to cooling her off. What was going on?

“Why aren’t you dressed? It’s seven.” She glanced down at her watch. “Five after seven to be exact. You should be ready to go.”

“I had a late night.”

Another swig of water at the sound of the sexy rumble of his morning voice didn’t help with the quiver in her stomach. Who was this man and why did he affect her like this? She hadn’t felt this way since she’d had that brief flutter of attraction in college. It had been easy to get over him when he started dating that hussy architect major.

“What were you doing? Computer work?” Please say yes. For years, they’d avoided detailed discussions about the people they dated; it seemed to be a mutual unspoken agreement between them.
“You know me too well.”

Relief flowed out of her in the form of a long exhale, glad he hadn’t been with a woman last night. Not that it should matter. Just because she’d asked him to be her fake man didn’t mean he couldn’t see other women. She didn’t even care. “Not good enough to circumvent you not being awake by now. Get going. Make it quick so both of us aren’t late.”

As he shuffled toward the bathroom, her gaze wandered down to his tight ass. Placing the cold, half-empty water bottle on her warm neck, she snapped her attention away. All of a sudden, her nerdy friend Kwame had morphed into a tempting man.

A Big Fat Slobbered All Over Thank You

Everyone (except those who aren’t in the business) knows that publishing is not a go-it-alone venture. If a writer can become successful without the help of others, then please let me know how. I’d like to take this small opportunity to thank those who have been most helpful in my writing career. Let’s think of this post as my sort of Emmy speech, only I’m not an actress, well I am, but that’s neither here nor there.

  1. Black Opal Books for giving me a chance to publish my books Love Through Time and Love Undercover
  2. Decadent Publishing for taking the chance to publish Midwife to Destiny and soon to be released Destiny Mine
  3. Debbie Christiana – I raise my chocolate up to this wonderful, supportive woman who provides me with pictures of half dressed men to cheer me up, celebrate my birthday, and just for the hell of it.
  4. Empi Baryeh a fabulous writer who has become my mentor, friend and go too woman.
  5. Cathrina Constantine – My awesome friend, beta reader, and review partner. We’ve had so much fun with our dual book reviews.
  6. Kiru Taye- all I can say is that I want to be like her one day.
  7. Zee Monodee- the writer/editor who taught me how to show versus tell. Before her I was like, what the heck does that mean?  She’s made me a better writer.
  8. All of the bloggers who've had me on their blog to gush about my novels. Blowing you huge kisses
  9. My friends who have read my books and given me wonderful feedback. I keep you around for a reason.
  10. To everyone who has ever shared, tweeted, or google plus-ed anything for me.  You have my ultimate thanks.
  11. Last but not least, my blog readers.Where would I be without you? It's not a question worth pondering.

Of course the list could go on into the millions but I’ll end here.

Any shout out of gratitude you’d like to make?

Do you love fairy tales with a twist? Once Upon a Marriage by Sara Daniel

Once Upon a Marriage
Retelling The Three Army Surgeons
By Sara Daniel

My favorite school assignment ever was modernizing and retelling a fairy tale (sophomore English – Aced it AND got extra credit – Thanks  Ms. Seckler!), so when Decadent Publishing put out the call for a retelling of a Grimm’s Fairy Tale, my hand immediately shot in the air. I was given The Three Army Surgeons, an obscure, somewhat gruesome story that was definitely not a romance. (Read it here.)

At the beginning of the initial brainstorming, I thought, “You have got to be kidding me. What I have I gotten myself into?” But then I plunged in. Before long, I was giggling as I typed because Once Upon a Marriage was SO MUCH FUN to write. Yep, favorite assignment ever!

Time is running out for Armina Keer to have the baby she’s always wanted. Before she can move on with her life, she needs her estranged husband to sign their divorce papers. When she can’t get him to respond, her meddling uncles arrange for a trip to his inn. Despite vowing to guard her broken heart, she has to settle the past before she can have a future.

Ian Keer might not deserve a second chance with his wife, but he’s not going to give up one either, not with the immediate flaming attraction still between them. While her uncles’ antics wreak havoc on life at The Inn, he offers her the ultimate gamble: Spend the night with him, and afterwards he’ll sign the papers if she still wants to leave.

With everything riding on one night together, Ian must convince her that their love is strong enough the second time around, and Armina must decide if love is worth sacrificing her dreams.

Excerpt:

“You hate me,” Ian whispered, feeling more nauseous than if he’d ingested a prosthetic eyeball. How could she not hate him when she believed their personal relationship had meant less to him than an employment issue?

Armina gazed beyond his left shoulder. “I don’t hate you. I’ve never hated you. When we got married, I understood you had a strong work ethic combined with an unusual drive to succeed and a consuming passion for the Inn. I knew I’d come in second to this place.”

He opened his mouth, wanting to argue, but couldn’t. If she’d made him choose, he wouldn’t have picked her.

“I thought I was okay with it,” she continued. “After all, I loved the Inn, too, and wanted you to realize your vision for it. Turns out I wasn’t okay. I didn’t realize how distant second place actually was.” She shrugged her slim shoulders. “Live and learn, right?”

Not right. He wanted to take back the lesson and teach her about real love instead. “You never should have had to settle for second place. With me or with anyone else. No one has the right to ask that of you.”

“Agreed.” Her voice came out stronger, her shoulders squared, and she looked him directly in the eye. “Now you understand why I want a divorce.”

Book Spotlight: A Different Class by @LeighEllwood #romance

A 1NS Story from Decadent Publishing
M/M Erotic Romance, 11000 words

From Leigh: I am thrilled to be part of the Decadent family! The idea for A Different Class came about after an invitation arrived for an upcoming high school reunion. I asked myself what might happen if somebody felt reluctant to attend because of bad experiences and memories, and how one night arranged by Madame Eve changes everything.

Right now I am halfway into the follow-up to this story, another hot M/M. I hope you’ll pick up A Different Class, and if you enjoy it drop me a line on Twitter at @LeighEllwood. J

Blurb

FDR High Class of 2004 graduate, Glenn Carson contacts fellow alumni to get a list of who will be attending the upcoming festivities. One call to a disgruntled former student leaves him shaken—apparently, not everyone is looking forward to the reunion. Hoping to ease his frustration, he contacts the 1Night Stand service for a relaxing and passionate encounter.

Known as “Mumbles” to former classmates, Rod Maloney would prefer to focus on the present and his successful business. However, past tragedies continue to haunt him, so he requests Madame Eve find him a man to show him a hot time and help him forget his troubles.

Will their one night together lead to a reunion after all?

Excerpt
“Mr. Maloney? I hope I’m not disturbing you.”
“Who is calling?”
The voice—deep and rich, anything but a mumble—intimidated him. Maybe the guy had been a jock, a several-foot-wide football player who helped the school win the championship senior year. He hadn’t attended many games and had skipped homecoming. “Um….” Right, we’re planning a reunion here. “I’m representing the reunion committee of the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School Class of 2004. You can probably guess our big tenth is coming up—”
“You know what? I’m going to save you the sales pitch,” Mumbles Maloney said. “I don’t know who you are, and I don’t give a shit. It’s taken me a long time to get past all the crap I put up with in high school, and if you think I’m going to show up at some rented ballroom all smiles as though the hell you assholes you put me through never happened, forget it.”
What? The man’s anger surged through him and sped up his heartbeat. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean—”
“F*** you, f*** FDR High, and f*** every last piece-of-shit homophobe in that backwater town. I hope you all get cancer.”
Click.
Beth burst back into the room, waving a thick tome with a scaly blue cover. “Found it,” she chirped.
“Never mind.” Glenn pushed away from his workspace. Mumbles Maloney’s palpable rage lingered in the quiet of the small office, invoking a sense of doom in an otherwise dull place. He doubted he’d forget the voice for a long while. The man had pent-up issues with his former schoolmates, no doubt, yet for all the vitriol burning through the airwaves and sizzling in the veins, Mumbles had sounded…well….
Sexy.

Guestpost: Thea Landen author of Second Skin #NewRelease #romance

I'd like to welcome the amazing Thea Landen to my blog. She has a new release out called Second Skin. It's part of Decadent's 1 Night Stand Series so you know it's going to be hot.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before
“So where do you get your ideas?” If you can find me an author who hasn’t heard that a million times, I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you. I’m not sure what people are looking for when they ask that question, and I haven’t found a satisfactory answer to that yet. Either I gather snippets of inspiration from everything to a book I read to a piece of some story I heard at work, or I’m standing in my bathroom at midnight with a toothbrush in my mouth and I have that light bulb moment where the idea seems to form out of nothing.

One challenge of writing is coming up with realistic, compelling characters that “pop”. While their traits and circumstances are the results of my imagination, I won’t pretend I start from scratch every single time. Sometimes you need a baseline, a template, a foundation on which to build the stars of your story.

I’ve been doing this on varying levels since I first started writing and publishing fiction. The two vastly different male leads in my Searching the Skies series are somewhat physically based on two men I knew who ran opposing internet gaming forums. (Hey, don’t judge.) My fantasy romance novel The Edge of the Sphere grew from a short story I wrote for friends in my writing/gaming circle, and as such, the hero, an introverted artist, is loosely based on one of those friends. Hell, I think just about everyone I know (or at least their gaming alter egos) somehow gets referenced in my sprawling sci-fi series, Disintegration.

When it came time to write Second Skin, the character of Anna and her story of growth was pretty well-defined in my mind. However, I needed someone just as strong to play opposite her. In order to do that, I wanted to have a vivid mental picture of him as well.

While promoting this book on other sites, I’ve mentioned that one reason I chose the setting of a winery in upstate New York for the 1Night Stand date was because I had my own summer fling kick off at one of those lakeside resorts. He was gorgeous and we had some hot, steamy fun together during the hot, steamy nights of June and July. Though I never saw him again once September rolled around (probably for the best), he remains a fond memory. While writing, I tweaked a couple minor details like eye color, but I otherwise had that clear image in my head to work from.

Okay, so I built a body. Next, he needed a name. This time, my mind wandered all the way back to high school. I was thirteen, Brendan was seventeen, and like many girls I knew, I was madly in love with him. I accepted that he was too old for me, so I settled for just enjoying the all the time we spent together at the extracurricular activity we were both involved with. (FINE, I’ll come clean: we played the same instrument in the school’s marching band. Yep, I was a big ol’ band geek.) He was the nicest guy, funny, and sweet, and caring…all characteristics I wanted this character in my story to have. And thus, I bestowed the name of Brendan on Anna’s date.

This isn’t the first time I’ve drawn on my lingering impressions of people I’ve known, nor will it be the last. I’m writing another 1Night Stand story right now, and the male lead is a similar amalgam of several men I’ve had various interactions with. One last word of warning for those who know me, though: this exercise can go both ways. After all, villains and antagonists need names and traits as well….

The Blurb

Anna’s career as a high-level CIA operative is put on involuntary hiatus. When a trusted colleague passes along the information for the 1Night Stand service, Anna decides to take the plunge against her better judgment and seek some intimate company. But her CIA instincts can’t be ignored, and when she contacts Madame Eve, she uses an alias.

Brendan owns a lucrative manufacturing company, but he’s yet to achieve the goal of finding a woman with whom he can share his successes and joys. But beneath his polished, capable exterior hides the painfully shy teenager he’s never been able to escape. When his own efforts in the dating scene fall short, he turns to 1Night Stand.

It would be so easy to fall in love with Brendan, and Anna’s protective mask slides away, piece-by-piece, revealing more of herself than she should dare. Before she can slip away with the sunrise, Brendan shows their encounter in a new light. Will Anna take a chance on their future, or will she choose to return to her undercover, but lonely life?

“It’s beautiful out here, isn’t it?” His breath danced across the tip of her ear.

“Mm-hmm.”

“Summers in this region are always nice, but they’re nothing compared to the autumn foliage,” he said. “Have you ever been up here during that time of year?”

Anna continued tracing idle lines from his wrist to his elbow. “No, I haven’t.”

His head dipped lower and his lips grazed her skin. “I realize it’s early for us, but I’d love to come back here with you. We could watch the changing colors, cuddle in front of a roaring fire….”

Anguish stabbed at her. The images he described sounded flawless and enticing. Every part of her yearned to agree to whatever he offered, but planning a rendezvous posed too much of a risk. She hadn’t predicted the difficulties of keeping up an ongoing charade with the man she met.

“That sounds lovely.” She swallowed hard and turned toward him. Her cheek rested in the crook of his neck, though its comfort did nothing to assuage her unexpected guilt over the upcoming lie. “Maybe we can work something out.”
