Q is for Question (Sing it like Destiny’s Child does)

I’m a feminist. I admit it and I’m proud of it. The women who raised and influenced me taught me to go after what I want and never to wait for any man to provide it for me because I could be waiting for the rest of my life.

I seek independence in my life and because of this I seek it in the heroine’s that I read and write about. The male can be the leader of all alpha males, but the female should never cower to him. Respect- yes. That’s only if he deserves it.

I leave you with the fantastic song Independent Woman by Destiny’s Child. The link heads you over to youtube to hear it for yourself.

Question, how'd you like this knowledge that I brought
Braggin' on that cash that he gave you is to front
If you're gonna brag make sure it's your money you flaunt
Depend on no one else to give you what you want
                                                Destiny’s Child

Do you prefer an independent or a weak heroine in your novels?

  1. Stopping by for AtoZ. I prefer independent heroine's, but equally I prefer independent heroes. If a character is really supposed to be all that, then they need to be able to do it on their own. The addition of other characters should be as gentile support, not a crutch. Great post!

    1. Thanks Emily. Great comment. Both should be strong and compliment each other.

  2. I like strong, independent heroines (and heroes) but they also need to show a softer more vulnerable side now and again - they are human after all :)

  3. Good question, Nana. In my mother's house, I am or was the most Independent of my siblings. Prone to cut the apron strings early. And believe it or not I married an old fashioned man, and most of our trails are caused by my stubborn independence.
In novels, I tend to like an independent female, though like Debbie commented, I need to see vulnerability.

    1. I'm curious to know how a modern independent woman ends up with an old fashioned man. That would be quite the story.

  4. Love that song! As a mother, that is something I strive to teach my daughters. Yes, I want them to find strong, faithful and loving husbands, but they should be independent enough to stand alone as well. Good post! New follower here. I'm stopping by from the "A to Z" challenge and I look forward to visiting again.

  6. Hey nana (number 50), lovely post for the letter Q, great song too. I think for me it depends in the book I'm reading, overall I probably prefer strong females though, rather then weak. It's probably nice to see a softer side to someone too though. I read all kinds of books too. :)

    1. Thanks for stopping by my blog Rowena. It made my day that I was your number fifty. I agree. A person's strength should be tempered by their soft side.
