L is for Love Through Time

LoveThrough Time is my debut novel to be released this year by Black Opal Book. Yes everyone I am a writer. I want to tell you a little secret about Love Through Time. In my query letter I said it was a “contemporary African American suspense romance.” It didn’t even pass through my mind that it was a paranormal until my publisher said they would categorize it as a paranormal romance.

It's a realistic book with no angels, demons, or any other-worldly creatures within the book. So why was it categorized as paranormal? The story has a past lives aspect that is integral to the romance. Smack self on the head and say duh!!!

I know not everybody believes in past lives but the concept of it is so widespread that I thought it was more in line with mainstream thinking than not, especially in literature.

I love the paranormal aspect of Love Through Time. To me it’s gentle with a slight flare of drama but there is nothing over the top about it. The heroine, Jasmine Gibson, recalls her past lives through daydreams.  It takes her a long time to realize they are her past lives and it takes her even longer to accept them as such. Her grandmother on the other hand accepts it immediately.

  1. Love is a one of the best words in the Dictionary. Love is what makes the world go round. Could you imagine if everyone loved one another? There'd be no wars because of love. I know, I'm dreaming. Can't wait to read your book, Love Through Time!!

    1. You make me smile Cathy. If everyone lived in a state of love rather than fear, the world would be a much better place.

  3. I'm not sure about past lives, in the same way that I'm not sure about anything remaining after death. I do hold an open mind for the possibility, though. :-) Your book sounds good. :-) !

  5. Hmm, I'm not sure I would have classed that as paranormal either, but since it's a popular genre at the moment, I wouldn't be arguing!

Sounds like a great book. I love stories that contain elements of past lives, so much there to play with.

  8. The concept of past lives is an accepted African norm. In my recently released paranormal story the heroine is reincarnated.

  9. Kiru is right. The concept is more African than anythings else. Well done, Nana. Though I've said I am not enamoured of the paranormal genre, I can eat my words in this case.
