The kiss intensified, the urgency of their unified desires racing through them. His hands swept down her body to cup her butt. Instinctively, she curved her arms around his nape rendering support as he lifted her, bringing her feminine mound up to meet the thick length of his arousal. She moaned, shivered. The mermaid cut of her evening gown halted her attempt to wrap her legs around his waist. With a whimper of frustration, she pulled back.

“Stupid dress,” she mumbled.

The sound of his deep chuckle did nothing to lessen the sexual energy gripping them.

“If we were dancing right now, would you let me lead you through a death drop?” he asked, still holding her against his arousal and not releasing her from his gaze. “Without hesitation?”

She quirked her brows, but his earnest expression made her realise his question wasn’t about an obsession with the dance move. He wanted to know if she trusted him.

“Yes,” she answered.

“Do you believe I won’t let anything happen tonight that you’re not ready for?”

She nodded.

He eased her back to her feet. “Lift up your dress.”

Empi Baryeh is the award-winning author of Most Eligible Bachelor (Book of the year, 2017 Ufere Awards). She works fulltime as a university administrator and spend her spare time writing sweet and sensual African, multicultural and interracial romance, and women's fiction.

Her interest in writing started around the age of thirteen after she stumbled upon a YA story her sister had started and abandoned. The story fascinated her so much that, when she discovered it was unfinished, she set out to complete it. Somehow the rest of the story began to take shape in her mind and she's been writing ever since.

I absolutely loved Most Eligible Bachelor by Empi Baryeh.  It was a wonderfully written romance novel, whose setting happened to be in Ghana. It’s an engaging book that made me laugh, want to dance, and had me developing a gigantic crush on the handsome, rich, talented, hardworking hero, Lord.

I mustn't forget to tell you about the hot romantic scenes (I’m blushing, but I’ll be all right after I turn the fan on). I highly recommend this book, but be careful not to get infatuated with Lord, he’s mine if he ever steps out of the pages of the book, which would freak me out, but not for long.

Embarrassing Empi Baryeh (in a good way)

This post is a long time in the coming. She may or may not know it, but Empi Baryeh, published author of Chancing Faith and Most Eligible Bachelor, is my hero, I mean mentor. 

I first encountered Empi when she was a judge on a writing contest that I participated in (I won third place by the way and the book has been picked up by Decadent Publishing- but this post is not about me). I thought her comments on my entries were insightful and the changes I made to my work based on her recommendations made the work so much better.  To be honest, I thought editing was her job.

During the competition Empi’s book Most Eligible Bachelor was released and I won a copy of it. If I didn’t respect the woman before, I would have started to lay prostrate at her feet after reading her work. She writes a fantastic story. I highly recommend that you read her books.

When it was time for me to start my blog I did what Empi did (except for using Wordpress, Blogger was a first come first serve thing for me). If I had a question I would go to Empi’s blog and then duplicate what she did.

It turns out that Empi knows a whole lot about blogging. When I read Kristen Lamb’s book Are You There Blog? It’s Me Writer, I saw that I was already doing most of the things Ms. Lamb recommended. All thanks to Empi.

Empi wrote a blog post about how she obtained the publishing contract for Chancing Faith with Black Opal Books. I did the exact same thing and got a contract.  I am so happy I got to know her. I owe the publication of Love Though Time (being released on August 3rd) to Ms. Empi Baryeh, who is not only my mentor, but has become my friend as well.

She was my very first non-me follower on my blog. A person can't get any more supportive than to be the first to sign up for something, can they?

Character interview with Lord McKenzie from Most Eligible Bachelor by Empi Baryeh

I’m so excited. Today I’d like to welcome Lord McKenzie from Most Eligible Bachelor by Empi Baryeh.  I’ve wanted him, um, I mean I’ve wanted to interview him for a long time, but he’s a very busy man.

NP: As you can see Lord, I have worn red and cleared off my couch. You know, just in case. *winks*

LM: (Chuckles) I knew that was going to come back to haunt me.

NP: Oh, I was just kidding, mostly. *giggles* How is Chantelle doing these days?

LM: Chantelle is great. She’s a wonderful mother to our twins. I fall in love with her anew every day.

NP: Congratulations on the twins. Must be a lot of work. My goodness you were burning me up with those dance moves. Where did you learn to dance?

LM: It’s not the most romantic story out there. I dated a Hispanic girl briefly. 

NP: Have you gotten Chantelle to do that risky Salsa move with you?

LM: Really, Nana. Did you ever doubt that I’d get her to do it? The only reason it didn’t happen on the page was because Empi had a fixation with making me suffer – something about character development.

NP: *chuckles* Empi is a ball breaker. I’m going to try to ask this question without giving away any spoilers. It’s important that you tell me the truth, because this kind of made me mad at you. Don’t worry, you’re too handsome to stay mad at for too long.  Why didn’t you tell Chantelle about the thing that happened?  You know what I’m talking about, the thing on Valentine’s day? 

LM: *embarrassed laugh* Have you met Chantelle when she’s angry?

NP: No, I haven’t, but you have a point. I’m sure I probably wouldn’t have told her either. If you could have told Empi one thing as she was creating your story, with no risk of her wiping you out of existence, what would it have been?

LM: Oh, I *did* tell her. She’s just too damned stubborn. Or at least that’s the story she’s sticking with. If you ask me, I think Empi grew fond of me in the course of the book and didn’t have the heart to “punish” me as much as she’d planned, but it might have been interesting if she hadn’t chickened out of the side plot of my ex-girlfriend dying of AIDS. And that’s all I’m saying, in case she wants to hang that side story on some other poor soul. You know, character development…

NP: What makes you different from all of the other romance novel heroes out there?

LM: You’re kidding, right?

NP: You are one of a kind, Lord. Okay, I don’t usually do this, but you’re special.  Here are some rapid fire questions. Tell me which option you would prefer.

• No electricity or no running water? – no electricity (winks). You can do a lot with that.

•  Fufu or banku? -  I have to choose?

•     Reading or television? – is it odd that I have to think about this?

•     Sweet or savory? – which do you want it to be?

•     Go out or relax at home? – depends? Am I alone?

•     Me or Chantelle? - *laughs*

Just kidding with that last one, kind of.  I know you’re head over heels in love with her and I adore her. I wish you both a great deal of success in your relationship and in your lives. Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog, Lord. I had a great time.

Dancing with Lord – romance in motion

    I did not make a typo. Lord is a real name in Ghana. In fact Empi Baryeh’s hero in Most Eligible Bachelor (an awesome book, check it out) is named Lord and the dance scenes are hot.

   In my case Lord, a colleague, was one of the best dancers I have ever had the pleasure of boogieing with. When we were on the dance floor together people would stare at us (even his wife)- I am not exaggerating either (well maybe a little). One of us would do a move and the other would copy it, then we would each dance in our own styles while still in perfect sync and then one of us would do a move and the other would copy it. It was the ebb and flow of dancing that made us look so good together. We never touched while dancing but we were in perfect rhythm as we danced.

    There was nothing romantic going on between us, but I envision that dancing with Lord was what a true romance is all about. The couple sometimes moves separately and sometimes together, but always to the same rhythm.

I fell in love with the book while reading it not only because it was set in Ghana, but the characters were so likable and real to me.  The passion between the two characters was hot and the writing was fantastic.  I read the book so fast that I had to slow myself down so that the yumminess of it would last.

      I’m kind of jealous of the anticipated lucky winner. I would love to read it again for the first time. The second time will just have to do for me.
