Spotlight: Black Soul by Kiru Taye #ParanormalRomance #Giveaway

***OUT NOW***
Title: Black Soul

Author: +Kiru Taye, Author

Series: Black Warriors, Prequel

Blurb:
He will damn his soul to set hers free.

When workaholic high-flying career lawyer Tara Woji takes a well deserved break and meets up with old friends she doesn’t realise the danger lurking in the shadows for her.
M’na is a chi, a gatekeeper whose duty is to protect the humans. He's lived more than a millennium waiting for Tara and is unable to do more than just watch her.
As the shadows deepen and darkness comes to claim her, he will do whatever it takes to protect her including doing the one thing he shouldn’t, releasing her powers.

In a flash of motion, he growled and stood before her, pulling her close till her body lay flush against his hard contour. On contact, the temperature of the air around them rose. His lips descended on hers for the second time that night.

This time, the sensations were not a blur. She felt him in every pore of her body, soaking in his aura, her body and mind overwhelmed by exciting sensations. The familiarity and recognition returned, along with the desire to have him inside her, filling her up. Memories of the two of them together flooded her mind.

Connected, she sensed more than his memories. His emotions wrapped around her mind like a swirling thread, connecting light, desire, and elation. Yet, in the depth of his mind, darkness, rage, and remorse lurked.

Her arousal increased. She clung to his muscular arms, her hardened nipples rubbing against his chest. Despite the clothes between them, it felt as if skin stroked skin. Her core pulsed. His hand cupped her behind, pulling her in to feel his rigidity between her thighs.

Feverish sensation coursed through her body, swamping every pore. She writhed in his arms, her body undulating uncontrollably. He broke the kiss, focused attention on her neck and sucked her skin.
"Oh!" Colors exploded around her, the orgasm ripped out of her body violently, blowing her mind.
He pulled away, leaving her panting as the energy arc surrounding them subsided.

"You…you've got to stop doing that," she said as soon as she could catch her breath, wondering how she could respond so instantly and explosively to this man she didn't know.

"It's the only way I can get you to see the truth about us. What we've always been. What we can become again."

Book Spotlight: The Inheritance by Olivia Mayfield: #Booktour and #Giveaway

This looks like an amazing book. Make sure to leave a comment because Olivia will be awarding $25 Amazon or BN.com gift card to a randomly drawn commenter during the tour.

BLURB:
Maggie Willings knew that returning home for her estranged grandfather’s funeral would not be easy, but she never expected the reading of his will to be the most difficult part. The four people named in the will—Maggie, her brother Robert, her ex-boyfriend Andrew, and her grandfather’s far-too-young girlfriend Bethany—are given a challenge: find out the truth about what happened to Maggie’s younger sister Cassandra, who vanished over eight years ago, and win the entirety of the estate.

Maggie is thrown by the strange request, reluctant to drag up painful memories of her sister’s disappearance, and bothered by her lingering attraction to Andrew, who wants to team up to solve the mystery. But there are ten million dollars on the line and Maggie has no idea where to start—or who she’ll be able to trust.

EXCERPT:
It was so strange, seeing this change in Andrew. He’d been much more casual, more carefree when they were younger. Had worn nothing but faded jeans and old rock band T-shirts practically year-round when he wasn’t in his football uniform. As an adult, he was confident, attractive.

Dangerous.

In one easy movement he took a seat beside Maggie. His cologne had a slight woodsy aroma, and she couldn’t help but breathe him in.

Then she exhaled loudly. No, she was not getting caught back up in him. Not now, not after everything she’d been through. His exterior may have changed, may have gotten slicker and more sophisticated. But deep down, he was still the same arrogant guy who was too selfish to feel, to love.

Who’d dumped her without one second thought.

Andrew looked at Bethany, Robert, Maggie. The waitress scuttled over and brought him and Bethany cups of coffee. They all drank in silence for a moment, buried in their own thoughts.
Tension wound through Maggie like a tightening coil.

“Look,” she finally said, putting her mug down and fixing her gaze on her brother, steadily ignoring Andrew and Bethany. “I’ll admit—I don’t like this at all. I can’t believe what Grandpa did. But it was his wish, his money, and I’m willing to put aside my own feelings to…” Her throat closed slightly and she swallowed. “To find out what happened to my sister.”

The past is never far behind.

Senia Loato’s life has been needled by disappointment, and the wounds that fester go beyond skin deep. She is certain if she puts miles between her and her tainted past, she will somehow outrun it. When she’s offered the chance to leave her island home of Mintang to become an au pair for three boys in Germany, she takes the opportunity to start running.

In Germany, she meets Miina, another African au pair. What builds between them is a life-defining friendship, one they will risk everything for.

And soon, they’ll be asked nothing less.

When Miina is betrayed and left stranded, Senia stands by her, risking much more than just her stay in Germany. She also stands to lose rich, handsome, turquoise-eyed Roman Dorenwald, the first man she has allowed into her heart.

But they’re risks worth taking.

Eventually, Senia makes a sacrifice that catapults her back to her past, where she’s forced to draw back the curtain and discover the shocking truth of her history.

Can she confront her nightmares, reach deep into her soul, and forgive those who have hurt her? Or is it easier to just keep running?

***This story was partly inspired by true events***

EXCERPT
My muscles tensed up again, and I smoothed the tablecloth, gave myself time to respond. How much could I tell him? If he had read my CV, he'd know I'd worked at the orphanage, but not that I'd also lived there. Did I want him to know? I raised my eyes. Why not? "I grew up in an orphanage, where I later worked as well, for two years. I never met my biological parents." Why not just leave out the whole adoption part? It would only call for more questions and complicate things.
To my surprise, Roman squeezed my hand, just for a second, but the warmth from his grip remained with me. "I'm sorry to hear that. That explains it. I used to wonder why you had this sad look in your eyes all the time."
I glanced away. "I do?" I whispered. But then, how would I know? Whatever look I had in my eyes, I'd lived with all my life. I wouldn't know if it was sad or not.
"Senia," Roman drew his chair closer to the table, "please look at me. It's nothing to be ashamed of. I can't even begin to imagine how it would be, growing up without my parents, even if they can be too controlling sometimes."
I allowed my glance to meet his again. "Well, having never met mine has made it easier to live without them."
The waiter placed our food in front of us, halting our conversation. The aroma of Roman's roasted pork in gravy and that of my beef and pork mingled in the air between us before teasing my nostrils. So easy for the aromas to do—nothing in the air to stop them from embracing. Unlike Roman and I. Between us stood many possible complications that could send a potential relationship toppling before it even started.

Chic Lit Gets Esoteric by Tamara Lee Dorris author of Secrets of a Spiritual Guru #giveaway

Tamara Lee Dorris, author of Secrets of a Spiritual Guru is taking over my blog today. Make sure you enter to win a $20 Amazon gift card by filling in the Rafflecopter.

Let me just start out by saying, if I’m weird, I blame it on that woman I call “Mom.”
My mom apparently had her first psychic experience when she was only three. How she can remember anything from when she was three-years-old is beyond me. I can’t remember what I had for lunch yesterday. Wait a minute…did I even have lunch yesterday? No wonder I’m hungry. Anyway, I didn’t think I grew up differently than most kids. You know, except my mom was the only divorced mother in my whole sixth grade class, oh, and that she occasionally talked to dead people. Standard stuff.
Our hallway bookshelf was filled with classics like Hemmingway, Steinbeck and Margaret Mitchell. I read all these when I was eleven. Little did I know that the books by Edward Cayce and Jean Dixon on the shelf were considered ‘esoteric.’ I read those too, and still don’t understand why JFK didn’t listen when Jean Dixon told him not to go to Dallas. I mean, why pay a famous astrologer for a reading and then ignore her advice? And speaking of Dallas, I still do not care who shot JR, but I am curious how many face-lifts he’s had.
Now, you won’t find me on any ghost-busting adventures because frankly, that stuff scares me, but I sure enjoy incorporating esoteric fun stuff in my chick lit novels.
I remembered all this today when my mom sends me a text. (please note: mothers with texting capabilities should be legally banned in most states, except for Nevada and Washington, for personal reasons). Anyway, her text said, “I’ve got two readings today.” And, it occurred to me; not everyone’s mother reads tarot cards for money. Weird.
It also occurred to me that not everyone has annual astrology readings, occasional energy clearings, and let’s not forgot a little acupuncture to clear my meridians every now and then (note to self: meridians feeling clogged). Admittedly, I’ve been researching this stuff for years. I’m curious about the subconscious mind, quantum physics, and if Lady Ga Ga thinks her hair looks good (don’t even get me started on her make-up).
Paranormal by definition simply means the stuff that science can’t explain. However, it is supposed to mean real stuff. Not vampires and werewolves and self-cleaning ovens—what? My oven STILL has not cleaned itself and I’ve asked it nicely several times. People can take pictures of your aura now-a-days with special high-powered equipment (and if you think your aura is a small town in Illinois, you need to go read Twighlight and call me in the morning). I mean, Harry Potter sold a zillion and 64 copies, and while that was considered a fantasy series, it renews my faith in the idea that even if people roll their eyes when I say I have to go Feng Shu my fish tank, they like the idea of thinking there are things beyond our scope of current understanding. Things even the egg-head scientists may never figure out. Things like why my mom starts 16 games of Words With Friends and nudges me when I don’t play back. That woman.
Now if you’ll excuse me, my chalkras need a tune up.

The last thing Special Agent Jared Green needs is "security risk" stamped on the resume of his latest undercover identity. Especially by the woman his job forced him to leave in New York without any explanation. She may threaten his cover, but it's his heart on the line.

He's good at playing a part. She's good at catching a fake. Can they trust enough to give love another chance?

EXCERPT:

He sauntered through the door, a white, button- down shirt tucked into belted khakis. When his dark gaze found her, he stopped. Stared. Her throat dried and a rustling motion stirred in her abdomen.

“Hi. I’m Darren Ray.”

Keep your cool, she commanded herself, standing and reaching across the desk. His hand was rough.

She yanked her hand back and waved at the chair. “Please, have a seat.” He waited for her to sit before settling in the visitor’s chair. “So, Darren, according to this, you’re being considered for a programmer position in the IT department. Tell me about your background.”

A professional mask settled over his features. “As you can see on my résumé, I have several years of consulting experience.”

“Tell me something about your experience as a mechanic.” Working on his prized old Mustang had been a favorite hobby.

The corner of his mouth twitched. “What do you mean? That’s not in my résumé.”

“You don’t have the hands of a programmer. More of a mechanic.” Oh, his hands.

“Okay, you got me.” He was going to confess. This should be good. “When I’m not programming computers I’m working on my car.”

“And what were you doing in New York City?”

He reached across her desk for a piece of paper, plucked a pen from its stand and scrawled something.  When she took the note their fingers brushed. Meet me for dinner at Pico’s at 7. I’ll explain everything. Can’t talk here.

BLURB:

Since her divorce two years before, Kelsie Collins has been determined to guard her heart and steer clear of seemingly ‘perfect’ men. An easy task considering the kind of men her matchmaking mother and her best friend, Nanci, keeps setting her up with. She allows them to set her up, knowing their hearts are in the right place and that there is no risk of her letting any man close enough to hurt her again. Her growing experience in ways to slip out of those ‘dates from hell’ prompts her to start writing a bad date survival guide. One aptly titled - OPERATION: DATE ESCAPE. And it’s during one of those escapes that sexier than sin firefighter Cole Maxwell comes to her rescue.

Cole isn’t sure what to think when the sexy redhead he’s just ‘rescued’ from a bad date informs him that he’s too ‘perfect’ to date. That’s a first. He’s had relationships end because the women couldn’t handle the risks that go along with his chosen profession, but never because he’s too perfect.

When his crew gets called out to rescue someone who is stuck in a tree, Cole finds himself once again coming to Kelsie’s rescue. This time he’s not about to let her get away without agreeing to give him a chance, even holding her high heels hostage to make it happen. She finally gives in and things heat up between them like a 3-alarm fire. But there’s more than passion between them and Cole sets out to prove to Kelsie that he’s nowhere near ‘perfect’, but he is the ‘perfect’ man for her. Can he get past the wall she’s built up around her heart? Or will he end up being just another chapter in her book of men she ran from?

*Operation: Date Escape was a Romance Writers of America Golden Heart finalist as well as a finalist in the American Title III Competition put on by Romantic Times and Dorchester Publishing.*

EXCERPT
Cole’s gaze slid down to the silver tray in her hands.  It was filled with what appeared to be assorted slices of cake.

“Uh, I’m Cole.  Can I help you with something?”

Her face lit up at that.  “You sure can!”  She moved toward him in a determined stride.  Smiling, she held up a plastic fork.  “I need you to try these and let me know which kind you like the best.”

“The one I like the best?”

She nodded.  “Yes.  I’m particularly fond of the cappuccino truffle torte myself, but I think my daughter’s more the French vanilla with cream cheese icing kind of girl.”

He looked toward his crew; certain this had to be some sort of joke.  Only they weren’t laughing.  Their slightly agape expressions told him they were as confused as he was at that moment.

“I’m sure they’re all good,” he said, trying to placate the plastic fork-wielding woman.

“Oh, will you just look at that dimple!” she exclaimed.  “And that smile.  You probably had her hooked right there.”

Her who?

The woman’s gaze moved over him in an appraising manner that had him shifting uncomfortably where he stood.  “It looks like you take very good care of yourself.  I can certainly see why she’s crazy about you.”

No, crazy would be this cake lady and her true cake of choice should be fruitcake with a side of nut roll because this woman was definitely nuts.

“Uh, well, yeah.  We try and stay in shape around here,” he replied with a warning glance to his friends who were snickering in the background.  “The job can get pretty physical.”

“Of course.”  She smiled at him.

“Speaking of which,” he said, feeling more than a little uncomfortable. “I don’t mean to sound rude, but I really do need to get back to work.”

“Yeah, he’s got dish duty today,” Nate called out with a grin.

The woman glanced toward the kitchen area.  “Oh, well let me get those for you while you taste the cakes.”  She set the tray on the dinner table and took a forkful of one of the miniature slices.  She lifted it to his mouth.  “Here’s the first one.  It’s lemon crème.”

“Um...” Cole muttered around the forkful of cake she’d just shoved into his mouth.  “Don’t you think your daughter and her husband-to-be should be the ones sampling these?”

“Absolutely, but Kelsie’s got a full schedule of cleanings this afternoon so I decided to─”

“Kelsie?” he gasped, half-choking on the tangy lemon cake still left in his mouth.

“My daughter,” she prompted as she handed him the fork.  She shoved the tray his direction and then stepped around the island to the kitchen area where a few dirty dishes awaited.  “Now try the raspberry crème,” she called out to him.

“Something you forgot to tell us, Maxwell?” his captain asked with a grin.

“Look, Mrs. Collins...” he began as his gaze shifted from the tray of cakes to Kelsie’s mother.

“Miss,” she interjected.

“Excuse me?”

“Collins is my maiden name,” she said as she turned on the water and reached for the dish soap on the counter by the sink.  “I never married.  But seeing as how you might end up part of my family, I’d rather you call me Melinda.”
