A lost art on me (it usually goes right over my head)

I’m not usually into poetry. Most times I don’t understand it and it makes me feel a little dumb because it seems like I should get it. But what I have learned is that poetry is about emotions and not all poetry speaks to everyone. But when it does, there is something mystical about it and it pulls you back repeatedly.

One such poem for me is by E.E. Cummings. I will not misrepresent myself and let you think that I was reading through a book of his poems and this one said “Nana.” That’s not the way it went. I heard it in the movie “In Her Shoes.” If a poem can make it into a movie then you know it must be good. I’m sharing it with you now. You don’t have to like it, after all it’s poetry, if it speaks to you then hear it.

 From the full poem: i carry your heart with me

“Here is the deepest secret nobody knows.
Here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
And the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
Which grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide.
And this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart.
I carry your heart.
I carry it in my heart.”
E.E. Cummings
