Winter Wonder Man Blog Hop

I’m excited to be part of this blog hop sponsored by H.D. Thomson which will be running from January 16th - 19th. I’m giving away a $5 Amazon gift card to one lucky person who leaves a comment.

For the hop we were asked to answer this question : “What makes a hero in movies and books wonderful to the point your toes curl?”

One of my favorite movies (and books) is The Princess Bride. At first I fell in love with farmboy Wesley’s whole “As you wish” thing. He was so sweet and loving towards Buttercup. But that’s not the curl my toes part.

After being on the high seas as a pirate Wesley came back a yummy alpha male. Able to drink poison, beat an expert at swordplay, fell a giant, and cheat death all for true love (not 'to blaith'). He left Buttercup as a weakling and returned a hero. For me it’s the transition that makes a hero so – mmm mmm good. Him becoming more than he was to reach his full potential. This makes my toes curl.

Yes, I’ll add that if he’s tall, muscular and handsome, it a plus.

Who is one of your favorite hero’s in a book or movie?

Blurb:
Defending her family – no problem. Recalling past lives – maybe just a small problem. Taking a chance on love again – well…

Jasmine Gibson has her world turned upside down when she meets gorgeous Sean Taylor. He’s the first man she’s been attracted to since her fiancĂ© dumped her two years ago. But when the disturbing daydreams start, Jasmine begins to fear that her actions in a past life may have finally caught up with her.

Sean finds it impossible to stay away from Jasmine even though he can’t shake the inexplicable feeling of betrayal, simmering deep inside him every time he sees her.

To complicate things, someone is out to hurt Jasmine and every time she and Sean are together, the police have to be called. Even if Jasmine can make Sean trust her, the two of them may not stay alive long enough to enjoy their love this time around.

  3. Love the Princess Bride! Men are great in general but of course, brains and brawn are a great combination :)

  4. I liked Liam Neeson's role in "Taken" where he played Bryan Mills, a retired CIA agent who's daughter gets taken.. He's not perfect by any means but what he goes through to save his child.. Yeah.. He definitely did it for me..

  5. Sorry, Nana, not a fan of the Princess Bride. I'm with Evie and cast my vote for Jamie Fraser from the Outlander series. Thank you, Diana Gabaldon, for the most amazing historical romance series ever! Jamie is captivating and charming. (Even my husband enjoyed reading the historically rich stories!) And what about Jack Ryan from the Tom Clancy novels??

  6. I love Griff from Damon Suede's HOT HEAD (sweet, strong fireman who struggles with his love for his best friend). When I'm in the mood for a smartalecky, atypical hero, Lucky from Eden Winters' DIVERSION series more than fits the bill!

  10. Yep, Jamie Fraser (James Alexander Malcom MacKenzie Fraser) wins hands down for my favorite fictional toe-curler. He is honorable above all else, and yet Diana Gabaldon has written him as a complex, real person with real faults. If you ever read Outlander, you'll never regret it.

The Princess Bride is a favorite in our house, too! Everything about that movie captures my heart and tickles my funnybone. Wesley's character development is a terrific thing to watch. How many people are willing to become "mostly dead" for their true love, after all? :)

  18. I love a caring, protective hero, one who can go all alpha male, yet doesn’t feel threatened and even encourages their loved one taking the lead and taking charge. A sense of humor is also important. It doesn’t matter if it’s just goofiness, dry humor, wit, etc, just some type of sense of humor. He has to be able to deal with feelings, not all, oh I’m a guy, we don’t do those things, over-macho crap. I want a guy who’s secure in his massculinity (you know, not afraid to wear pink or scared people will think he’s “gay” or “a girl” for actually doing/enjoying things like going to the theatre or dressing fashionably). Loyalty and fidelity are extremely important as well as being able to cook. A guy who can cook is super sexy. And romantic at heart as well.
