The Book of Love


One of my favorite songs is ‘Book of Love’ as sung by Peter Gabriel. The words are so romantic and sweet I could, and often times do, listen to it for hours at a time.

The book of love is long and boring and written very long ago
It’s full of love and heart shaped boxes and things we’re all too young to know
But I, I love it when you give me things
And you, you ought to give me wedding rings

Sigh.

The melody is soothing and melodic. It inspires me to dance closely with my man, laying my head on his shoulder and just swaying to the romance of the music (like in the movie Shall We Dance? with Richard Gere where he dances with Susan Sarandan). Enjoying just being held by the man I love.


   As romance writers we write extended versions of the book of love. A book written long ago is updated, continued, and altered every time a romance novel is written and shared. Every time we read a romance novel we are reading more about the book of love.

Sigh.

For me love keeps life going and reading and writing romance novels helps me to remember to love everyone. Not just one man, but everyone I come into contact with.

But I, I love it when you read to me
And you, you can read me anything

Is there a song that stirs up such romantic images for you that all you want to do is freeze time and dance with the one you love?

    Nice post, Nana. Made me think, but not for long. I love Dave Matthews Band and all of his songs, but there is something about "Crush", the music is beautiful, his voice is beautiful and the words are beautiful!

      Thanks Debbie. I had to get to youtube to listen to Crush. I never new the title. It's a good song. Excellent band.

    For me it changes on they type of heroine I'm trying to capture on my pages. For instance in Love Remains I pictured her as very bossy, pushy, and promiscuous and somehow I compared her to Evita. As the story progressed and she changed with it, Phantom of the Opera came to mind, and the song and the lyrics "Say you Love Me" just fit the scene perfectly. So, I guess, I can't just pick one song for all. The characters I'm developing seem to drive me to the music. Yes, they live in me and I wouldn't evict them for anything.

    When it comes to music that inspires me there are two groups that can do no wrong: Coleske (South Band) and Michael Learns to Rock (Danish band). Their songs are usually guaranteed to put me in the best mood for writing, but sometimes - depending on the scene - I might call on some other favourite song (of which there are many)

      Check FB for a link to one of their songs (Aphrodite - which I have decided they sang for/about me).

      Michael Learns to Rock (or MLTR) has an odd name but I am more certain you've heard them but didn't know who they were. I will introduce you to them too :-)

    Of late I have come to love West life's Queen of my Heart. The song is beautiful and soulful as well and it touches a core in me.
