Everything I know about Author Platforms

To be honest I only really know what my guru Kristin Lamb told me in her fantastic books and blog posts, and what I’ve experienced myself.

I hope this example of what an author platform is will help you better than me defining the term. I’ve been following Liv Rancourt’s blog for a while. Please don’t ask how long because I have a confused sense of time, but it’s been over a year. The woman is a hoot, even when she has guestsposts she adds something interesting before handing over the reigns. Sometimes she talks about whats happening in her home and shares pictures. I enjoy reading her blog and miss it when she doesn’t post for a while.

On the left panel of her blog is the cover of her book. Every time I landed there I saw the cover. The first time I read the blurb I didn’t think it would be my cup of tea, but after reading
her entertaining posts I bought the book. And guess what? I loved it. See my review here.

And that, my friends, is an author platform. Gaining readers and fans through innocuous presentations rather than begging them to buy your books.  It works. I’m the proof.

What does the term author platform mean to you?

  1. Is an author platform not the few wooden pallets I stand on in my garden when watching my wife do the gardening and pretending I'm totally helping? ;)

    1. I think that is a totally different platform, scruffy-duck.

  2. This is good advice. I love the blogs that pull me with their witty banter and humor. I think my posts reflect the amount of time I have. If I'm really busy with work, my blog is short, quick, and to the point. If I have a bit more time, you'll get a large dose of my personality, which tends to make people come back more. Love this. Thanks for sharing. It has reminded me to try to put in a little something of myself even when time is short. *leaves to work on doing just that on the short blog I posted a little while ago*

    1. I enjoyed your comment, Sabrina. I am partial to short and sweet blog posts myself, but sometimes the longer ones are more captivating.

  3. Oh, I totally missed this, Nana, and I'm so sorry I did! Thanks for the shout-out and for the kind words about my blog & my book. 3-4 months ago I made a conscious choice to focus on writing, which hasn't left me as much time for blogging, but you're kind of motivating me to do more. Thanks again!
