Review: Tallas by Cathrina Constantine

In a decimated world, setting foot outside the protected village of Tallas is certain death—or so they say. Mutations caused by those in the wilderness have plagued Tallas’s citizens—or so they say…

For Doogan and Keeyla their belief in a Free Tallas has lost its glimmer. And when their young son, Fabal, is given a very dangerous assignment, they risk everything to protect him. Fleeing Tallas, they head for the wilderness. But when they are ambushed by cruel Mediators, Doogan is recaptured, and while Keeyla and Fabal escape, she is severely injured.

Can the two of them survive in the wilderness? Will Doogan getaway from the clutches of the Mediators? And are the terrible legends about the monsters beyond the walls of Tallas true?

My Review

Ms. Constantine has surprised me with her ability to write gripping action scenes. I never knew where she would take the story. Once I thought I had it figured out, she swerved me, even up until the end.

To be honest, I’m not all that into dystopia, or at least I wasn’t until I read this book. There was everything, action, romance, suspense fun antics to make me chuckle, and a super duper Alpha male, older, yes, but awesome none the less.

Ms Constantine’s description of Tallas and its inhabitants was so vivid that I got caught up in the lives of the people and one large furry creature in particular.

One complaint about the story was that it never stated how the end of the world came to be. I would have liked to know this, but perhaps if I’m lucky, I’ll learn about it if Ms. Constantine continues on with a sequel. I’ll be the first in line to read it if she does.

I give this book five out of five chocolate bars (bear shaped).

I purchased this book from Amazon.
