I had a discussion with a friend about love at first sight. I’m a
romantic at heart and I love watching romance movies, writing and reading romance novels. But I admit that I don’t believe in love at first
sight (I’m not ruling it out 100%, maybe just 95%). Lust at first sight
definitely exists at 100%.
One
of the most romantic movies acted by the most debonair actor that ever hit the silver screen was An Affair to Remember.
The premise was that two
people meet on a ship and fall deeply in love. Unfortunately they're both involved with other people at the time. They agree to meet on the top of the
Empire State Building in one year (after dumping their significant others) if
they still feel the same. One of them shows up, but the other doesn’t (The
movie is ancient but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone so I’m not going to
tell you what happened after that).
I would like to believe in that instant deep
magical kind of love. The kind of love I write for my characters. I know that
life is not a book and for me it takes time to know I'm in love with an
individual. It may be possible that I just haven’t found that instant love guy yet (hence
the 95% non-belief).
Do
you believe in love at first sight or is it a bunch of baloney?
