Review: Captive (Challenge series Book 4) by Kiru Taye #EroticSuspense

The Blurb

With her BFF and ex-lover now happily engaged to the man of her dreams, Anuli Okoro is left to her own devices. She's happy for her best friend. But she's accepted that there can never be a fairy tale ending for her. She's too damaged to ever fit with anyone else. So she's getting on with her life the only way she knows how.

Until she pushes too far and lands herself in hot water. Or rather in cuffs and chains, captive to an annoyingly sexy man who sees the darkness inside her and isn't fazed by it. Fighting him doesn't work because he seems to know her too well. Seems to know how to make her beg for what he can give her.

But she'll be damned if she'll let another man control her. The only option is to escape his infernal contraptions and run, before he totally consumes her.

My Review
Two warnings about this book: 1. It’s not a stand-alone, although technically you could read it alone, but the book that precedes it gives the reader more clarity into Anuli, her life, and her motivations (and besides, Worthy was a great read) 2. It’s not a traditional romance. Ms. Taye categorizes it as erotic suspense. Now with those things out of the way, let’s get down to my review.

I didn’t realize this book would take me out of my comfort zone, but it did, and I am truly glad. The story was amazing. Anuli has lived the kind of life I wouldn’t wish on anyone. She’s survived it by being tough. She knows how to stand up for herself and how to get her pleasure.

The guy who holds Anuli captive is hot. Dominant in so many ways that it both excites and scares Anuli. He does have a secret that makes me ascribe the term “interesting” to him. When I learned it (which I won’t share with you) I read the next few pages in a state of shock. It turns out that what Anuli got from him was precisely what she needed.

Although the book is not a standard girl meet boy, etc. romance, the romantic elements which pulled at my heart strings was strong. In the end, all I really wanted was for Anuli to be happy.

If you have ever read any of Ms. Taye’s novels, then you know she can pack a punch into any tale she tells. Captive was no different.

I give this book five out of five rope shaped chocolate bars.

I purchased my copy from Amazon.
