Affairs of the Dead (The Reanimation Files #1) by A.J. Locke #UrbanFantasy

The Blurb
"Help ghosts, stop a thief, and try not to die..."

Necromancer Selene Vanream helps ghosts settle their affairs so they can move on. But when breaking the rules gets her in trouble, she's bumped down to tracking ghosts trying to avoid the afterlife. Ghosts like Ethan Lance, who claims he was kicked out of his body when someone else jumped in. Which might be plausible--if such a thing were possible. And if Micah, Selene's partner, didn't pull her into an investigation of brutal murders that lead directly back to Ethan.

But when the whole mess puts Selene's life in danger, she suddenly has very personal reasons to get Ethan's body back. Between her uncomfortable relationship with Micah, and problems with her boss, Selene learns just how much trouble it can be when you don't follow the rules...

My review
This is the second book I’ve read by A.J. Lock, but the first in this series. Selene is a very interesting character. To be honest for the first half of the book she seemed to lack morals, and she knew it, but when we understand the reasoning behind the decisions she makes, it’s easier to forgive her. It’s almost like Ms. Locke made Selene’s actions (not her as a person, because she was pretty cool) a little unlikable which I found strange until I realized why.

With a book featuring a necromancer I should’ve anticipated the amount of action that was packed into the story, but I didn’t. I was not disappointed. Selene is a kick ass heroine, even though she did get her behind handed to her a couple of times. She’s smart, resourceful, powerful, and not afraid to use deception to do what needs to be done.

I’m looking forward to reading more books in the Reanimation Files series.

I give this book five out of five rune (I image them to look like crystals) shaped chocolate bars.

I purchased my copy from Amazon.
