I'm a tad bit late with my post on this blog tour. Better late than never right? Remember to enter the wonderful giveaway after reading my review.
One never truly knows what goes on behind closed doors in a
marriage. On the surface Laurel Brittingham’s life is idyllic but when you dive
below the sparkling facade and submerge yourself within the murky, slimy sand
at the bottom, life is never as it appears.
Laurel is a devoted, loving and loyal wife and mother. She married her high school sweetheart and created three new young lives during her marriage to Paul, all the while denying and avoiding the role his demons played in their marriage. Laurel’s only saving support system, other than her three children is her rewarding career as a nurse and her three gal pals that she cherishes beyond words. Addictions, anger and emotional abuse are the cornerstone of her marriage until one day life presents an interesting choice.
Laurel wasn’t looking for him, she wasn’t seeking him out. Laurel was loyal; for better or worse weren’t just vows they were a way of life. Fate or destiny introduced a much younger man into her life; a much younger man who was also the son of a good friend. Brandon turned her world and her heart inside out and upside down. Their love was undeniable and soul mending.
Unfortunately, everything has a price. Their relationship unravels a web of lies, betrayal, abduction and deceit. What Laurel doesn’t know is how close to home this ugly web of lies comes. Laurel begins to travel down a path of shocking truths with twists and surprises she never fathomed, even saving a soul she never thought possible. She’s forced to make choices that will affect her family, her friends, and her happiness but most importantly may destroy the very life she holds dearest.

My Review
It’s always an interesting phenomenon for a heroine
to find the man of her dreams. It’s even more so when she’s married with
children. Add to it that the man who seems to be her destiny at twenty seven
years old, is old enough to be her son,and here is a novel with a whole lot of
drama in the mix.
Told from the perspective of Laurel, the heroine.
Ms. Bliss has woven a tale of intrigue, suspense, full of moments that made me
gasp as I hungrily turned the pages.
I will admit that it took me a couple of chapters to
get into the story, but at the first twist I was enthralled. The attraction
between Laurel and Brandon is intense and fierce. And the relationship between
Laurel and her four best friends had me giggling and sighing at their support.
I wouldn’t classify this as a romance, only because
the adultery aspect of it kept making me cringe instead of rooting for Laurel
and Brandon. Yes her husband was an ass, but still I kept wondering if they
would end up together in the end. I won’t give you any spoilers, so read the
story to find out who she ends up with. If anyone.
I give Choices three out of five chocolate bars.
I was given this book in exchange for an honest
review.
Thank you Nana....thats a brilliant review. I quite enjoyed reading it and Sheila and I both appreciate the time you took to read her book. Much love.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the intruduction to such a facinating writer.
DeleteGreat review! I can see how the adultery aspect would be a bit uncomfortable to read about...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Heather.
DeleteI guess the adultery part will put me off also especially when it has to do with someone old enough to be Laurel's son. But it's more to do with a culture thing!
ReplyDeleteYes, the Ghanaian culture frowns heavily on older women dating younger men, but applauds the opposite. It angers me.
DeleteI love your chocolate bar rating system! Yeah...adultery is usually taboo in romance novels, unless you're Danielle Steel...
ReplyDeleteI actually thing her gracious heart held on to her husband for too long. She could have been free as a bird when she met him, instead of taking care of someone who didn't appreciate it.
DeleteWhst a review! I'll have to read it to find out how it sits with me.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck, Shiela.
I like it when people make up their own minds about a book by reading it.
DeleteNana, thank you so much for your generous and honest review. It's very, very much appreciated :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for writing such an intriguing story, Sheila.
DeleteWow, romances sure have changed since I was young. I've never read a romance with adultery in it. I mean, why? Divorce is easy. Why cheat and lie? Excellent review highlighting pros and cons, Nana.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Lexa. It's a more real type of romance.
