E is for Eritrea #atozchallenge

I learned about this country through a freak accident when I went to Accra (the capital of Ghana) and ate pizza at a place I had always wanted to go to. I couldn’t place where the people came from. They weren’t Ghanaian and they weren’t Indian (from India) either because of the courser hair and their accent was different. I asked the guy if he was Ethiopian. Nope. They were from Eritrea. I had him repeat the word about five times.

It is officially the State of Eritrea is a country in the Horn of Africa. Eritrea is a multi-ethnic country, with nine recognized ethnic groups. It has a population of around six million inhabitants.

Here is a picture of delicious pizza, just thought I'd share the ooey gooey cheesy goodness. So yummy. And yes that's a Coke light, not a word from anyone.

This is a gigantic blog hop so click here to see what other bloggers are discussing for this letter. Have fun.

  2. Sounds like a place from a fantasy novel. The name is definitely unique. Had pizza on Thursday, Dominoes Ground Beef and Pepperoni, large. Sad it's costly in Jamaica but I have bought it twice this year and share it with my family. Though they don't pay but family is family and I'm not getting a condition eating it all. I bought a Sprite with it. Anyway this country sounds very rich in culture and I would like to pay it a visit.

    1. Have you ever tried making your own pizza? I'm sure it would turn out well, just as long as the sauce is good and the cheese is plentiful.

  3. In my classroom we've hung a very large map of the world. While I was waiting for my students one day I remember finding Eritrea and saying "Hmm, that's one I've never heard of before".

  14. I have heard of Eritrea only because I have played a challenge game to name all 196 United Nations recognized countries in 12 minutes. Since I can do it now, I had to learn the names and locations, but I knew nothing else before today. It seems more modern than I had imagined. Thanks.

Amazing how sometimes the world seems so small and yet there are just endless possibilities and places. 6 million inhabitants. That's amazing. I can't believe I didn't know it was there. It looks gorgeous from those pictures.
