Though
Emily Saunders, a wanderlust junkie, has been stateside a bit longer than she
planned in When Girlfriends
Take Chances, she has a passport filled with stamps, a well-worn rucksack, and a photo album the size of the
Leaning Tower. She has a penchant for travel that’s made for a life on the go,
always in search of an adventure!
While
I’m not as extreme a globetrekker as Emily, I sure do love to travel and try to
visit as many new corners of the globe I can! Last spring my husband and I
enjoyed a Mediterranean cruise and got to visit a lot of really fantastic
cities. I definitely had the Emily vibe going there for a while—pristine
Aix-en-Provence one day, gritty Naples the next. I’m not sure what’s in store
for this year, but when the travel itch comes it’s nice to look back on some
fave places visited, or snag up a book that can whisk me off! Here are a few of
my recommended must-see cities.
Call it
cliché, I don’t care. I love Paris for every clichéd reason you can imagine.
The Eiffel Tower, the city’s rich history, the Louvre, the quaint cafés and
cobbled streets, the gardens, parks, overall fabulousness of all-things-Paris,
and ummm, can you say croissants…macarons…carbs in general?! I can only wax on
lyrically about how beautifully this city glows, especially at night and in the
rain when no other city can ever imagine glowing so brilliantly at such a time.
It’s no wonder the setting of my next chick lit series will be taking place in
the City of Love and Lights!
Santa
Barbara
This little
Southern Californian enclave is such a beautiful and peaceful slice of coastal
living. I’m a native SoCal girl, but sadly not an SB girl. I think I make up
for it by using Santa Barbara as location in some of my novels…and by planning
future retirement there. It’s just a simple, very clean, quiet, and inspiring
city I love visiting—whether physically or through writing.
It is
home, after all, and after Paris I think it’s the best darn city in all of
Europe! Berlin is multikulti;
there’s a place for everyone here (and, per German need for order, enough of
everything is in its place); it’s rich with history but modern and lively.
There's always something to do! I love Berlin and life as an American
expat here so much I even wrote a book about it: Bumped
to Berlin. If you
enjoy travelogues written by goofy blue-eyed American girls, it just may be
your cup of…erm…mug of
beer.
In need
of change, of something refreshing, something new, nomadic Emily finds herself
on an adventure in When
Girlfriends Take Chances. But it’s not quite the adventure she imagined and
is used to. It may not be an African safari, a backpacking trek through Europe,
or an Australian walkabout, but it’s just what she needs!
And, no
worries, soon enough Emily will get that fresh ink in her passport. But until
then, I hope you enjoy reading When
Girlfriends Take Chances, and I wish you Bon
Voyage wherever you plan on
jetting off to this year, be it on a plane, a ship, or via a book!
What
are some of your favorite places visited? Where do you dream of going some day?
Any bucket list places going to be visited soon?

Emily Saunders has never thought twice about grabbing
her passport, rucksack, and camera and trekking across the globe. If there's an
NGO, a study abroad program, or simply the travel itch, Emily's on the first
plane out. Free-spirited, open-minded, and eager to explore, it's no wonder
Emily's hardly in one spot (or relationship) for long.
For the past year and a half, though, Emily's found herself planted in her college hometown of Seattle. She's surrounded by her best friends, has steady work as a photographer and at her friend Sophie's café, and is certainly kept busy by the wild antics of her BFF Jackie. Life's enjoyable, but Emily's looking for something more. She's ready for a change, for adventure!
But when Emily tells her girlfriends she's ready for something new she does not expect Operation Blind Date!
Sure, Emily's single. Sure, she hopes to some day find true love. But being thrown into an insane challenge like this is not exactly the adventure she had in mind! Couldn't she just travel and focus on her photography? Or volunteer in Africa? Will a string of eligible bachelors lined up by her friends--a shot at finding a real and lasting love--really be that change she's searching for?
This is a spirited story about seeking adventure while being true to yourself, wherever you are in life. It's a story about love, risk, and self-discovery. About what happens when girlfriends take chances.
