Prah & Constantine Review: Kinetic by S.K. Anthony

I chose this book for one reason – destiny, kismet, fate. Whatever you want to call it.

Ms. Anthony contacted me to let me know I had won a copy of Kinetic. When I went to claim it on Amazon, it turned out I had bought a copy a couple of months ago (I sometimes buy books and then forget I own them, I know I'm not the only one).

With permission I decided to give my prize to Constantine. It turned out she’d bought a copy too.  Isn't that the best book coincidence?

When you finish reading my review, head over to Constantine’s blog to check out what she had to say about it. I can’t wait.

The Blurb
Being strong is one thing. Being an unlimited source of power is quite another.

Genetically altered by the Organization, Annie Fox takes down criminals CIA-style with her luminary strength. With nothing to mend but her broken heart, she is relentlessly pursued by her boss Derek Lake. Just when Annie is about to give him a chance, her ex-husband unexpectedly comes out of hiding.

A wanted man, Nick Logan is a cold-hearted murderer who is considered enemy number one, and orders are clear: kill on contact. He is more powerful than ever and threatens the lives of those she holds most dear. His plan? Get his hands on Annie and use her Kinetic energy to destroy them all. When Annie finds herself with an opportunity to end him, she pauses, horrified by the scars covering the face she once loved. A split second that will cost her everything…

My review
I must mention how fantastic I find the cover. Now that I’ve read the book I understand more about it, which makes it more beautiful.

I love a strong female, and Annie takes it to another level. Not only is her strength physical, but she’s been able to withstand a tremendous heartbreak and continue on without being bitter at the world. Her anger towards her ex is another issue altogether, but we can’t blame her for that. For someone who can crush bones, she has a kind, gracious, honest spirit which made me like her.

There is a lovely romance set within this action packed novel which I loved. I won't tell you between who because I don't do spoilers.

Other than the gorgeous cover and amazing blurb,  I bought this book because of Ms. Anthony’s witty blog posts. I expected to laugh while reading this novel and she did not disappoint.

One of the issues I had was that the dialogue seemed a little immature for people of their age, magnitude, and power level. Not that I was expecting them to sound old, but these were characters who’d had to grow up quickly in life and took on a great dal of responsibility.

I recommend this book to everyone who seeks an adventure and for a short while wants to forget they don’t live in a world without awesome powers. Oh the potential of life if we were all Luminaries. I'd want to be Kinetic for sure.

I give Kinetic four out of five chocolate bars

I purchased this book from Amazon.

  3. This is such a great book, and Annie is such a terrific character. She hasn't let life get her down, and she's pretty kick-butt all around, but she's still open to whatever comes next.

I like that you mentioned SK's sense of humor shining through in the book. She really is a sarcastic, hilarious gal and her writing reflects that.

    Nice review!
