What is your social media persona?

This post is a question for you all, because I think I'm missing something when it comes to social media. First of all fear keeps me from blurting out my thoughts on Twitter and Facebook. Things sound so funny and insightful in my head, but once I write it on a post and realize that the whole world will get the chance to read and then judge it, I often twist and edit the original idea until it's no longer funny or insightful. Instead its safe. Safe is boring, but it's...well, safe. Who wants to be ridiculed?

But then there is the opposite side. People who say whatever the heck is on their mind are fascinating. They may not be the most liked, but they get attention. These are the people who care, and yet still don't care about what people think about them because they are doing what they know is right for them. This is the ultimate goal for me.

Would it be easier to express myself completely if I wasn't actually myself? On FB and Twitter I am Nana Prah (no pen name for me). Who I am in real life is who I am on social media and my blog. I don't like overwhelming people with information about my books because they are my actual friends and I don't want them to unfriend me because I'm promoting myself instead of sharing stuff about my life.

Now to my question. How many of you on FB and Twitter post as who you are in real life? If you take on a different persona, does it help you to be more expressive?
