J is for Jewelry (and Empi Baryeh) #atozchallenge

In Ghana we have a certain type of jewelry called waist beads which wear around the hips. Not all cultures within the country wear them, but a person doesn’t have to be a of a waist bead wearing culture to enjoy the jingling and prettiness of them.

When a man sees it on a woman it sets off his libido, an experiment Pavlov would have gone nuts with. Here are some of the answers I got from an informal survey I took with a few Ghanaian men about why they enjoyed waist beads on a woman:

  • Most of them didn't have a clue why, they just did
  • The number of beads a woman wears is the number of "rounds" she expects to go for the night (Lol)
  • When she plays with the beads it indicates she wants sex (interesting)
  • A man can rub his penis against the beads, which helps to stimulate him (hmmmmm)

On the cover of Empi Baryeh’s novel, Chancing Faith, which is set in Ghana, the heroine wears some beautiful waist beads. I think you can see why the men think it's hot.

Blurb

He didn’t do short-term relationships…
American ad exec, Thane Aleksander, doesn’t date co-workers either—until business takes him to Ghana, West Africa, and he meets Naaki. Now he’s at risk of breaking all the rules. Can he stop this headlong fall before it’s too late?

Until he met her!
Naaki Tabika has a burning need to prove, to herself and others, that she’s more than wife and mother material. To do so, she’s prepared to give up everything for her job. Meeting Thane, however, makes her want to get personal. But falling for her boss could destroy her career. Will she be willing to risk it all for the one thing that can make her truly happy?

Two divergent cultures, two different races, two career-driven professionals, only one chance at true love—will they find the faith to take it, or will their hearts be sacrificed on the altar of financial success?

  5. Since the first time I saw Empi's cover, it has been one of my all time favorites. I just love it. And now that I understand about the beads, it's even hotter.

Gotta to love men. Men are universal and it doesn't matter what country or continent they are from, they all think alike :)

    1. It's a culture thing. Interesting how everyone is so different. Even within the same country, beads arent' attractive to some.

  9. It cracked me up how most of the men had no clue why they liked the waist beads, that they just did. :)

    1. Sometimes we don't know why we like something. I wonder if they were just too shy to share their answers with me.

  13. You obviously need a waistline so that the beads can fit snugly... LOL

  16. aaaawww. Is it in bad form for me to comment on this post? Well, I've decided I don't care. Thanks for the mention and the celebration of my cover. I really wanted those beads on the cover (and Kim Killion did an awesome job) cos it gets a mention in the love scene - I'm pretty sure Thane had a couple of ideas about why he liked it ;-)
