Blogger Book Fair: Meet Allyson Lindt

Thanks so much for hosting me today Nana. I had a lot of fun answering your questions, even the ones that made me think ;-) I’m also giving away a copy of Conflict of Interest today, as well as a $10 Amazon gift card. Leave a comment below to be entered.

Q: When I saw your name the first thing I thought of was chocolate. Are you any relation to the manufacturers of Lindt Chocolate? Please say yes, it would totally make my day.
A: I hate to say it, but no relation to the chocolate. However, that’s the wonderful thing about picking a penname, it can be whatever I want, and I definitely had chocolate on the mind when I went with Lindt as a last name.

Q: What genre of books do you write?
A: The easy answer is contemporary romance. I love sexy, sweet, and happily ever after. But I’m also a geek at heart, so my characters tend to have similar interests. For instance, in my Bits & Bytes series, I have a game developer, a hacker, a comic artist, and a costume designer (among other things). So think of it as contemporary romance for cubicle dwellers.

Q: How long have you been writing?
A: Longer than I haven’t ;-)  I’m one of those “I’ve been writing since I was a kid” people, but I’ve only been really seriously immersing myself in it for about six years.

Q: What do you find the most difficult thing about being an author?
A: I don’t think I’m supposed to admit this out loud, because authors are supposed to have thick skin, but the most difficult thing for me is the feedback. I love praise, but it always takes me a little while to shrug off the not-so-praisy stuff.

Q: Your book covers are hot. Who is your cover artist?
A: I know, right? I’ve been so lucky with book covers. My publisher, Liquid Silver Books, has some amazing artists on staff. I’ve been fortunate enough to have Valerie Tibbs create both my Conflict of Interest and Toeing the Line covers. She’s tied the series together, and I get sexy models on my books.

Q: What do you do when you have, and it fills me with horror to say, writer’s block?
A: Err… Writer’s block is an evil seductive fiend that convinces me to slack off and play video games instead of writing. I manage to avoid it a lot by sketching my scenes out ahead of time, so I usually know what I’m going to write when I sit down.

But if the words absolutely won’t come, I do a stream-of-consciousness style brain dump, just typing every word that comes to mind, until something jogs loose.

Q: Please give an analogy of what writing is like for you.
A: Writing is like seeing a loose thread on a sweater. At first, I’m thinking “Oh, what’s that?” And then I tug it, and it pulls loose a little. And if I keep tugging, sometimes the thread gets stuck, but at the end of it all, I see what the story is made of, and once it’s all unraveled, I get to put it back together in a new shape.

That was a great analogy. Thanks for stopping by my blog. Okay everybody, remember to leave a comment to win one of Allyson's prizes.

Summary & Link for Conflict Of Interest

Kenzie propositions a sexy stranger in a coffee shop to prove to herself she’s capable of taking a risk. She doesn’t expect him to be sitting across from her the following Monday as her newest client. Even worse, she can’t stop thinking about what might have happened between them on a personal level if it weren’t for their professional relationship. He knows how to push her buttons, and she doesn’t want him to stop.

Scott has built his software company from the ground up to escape things like stuffy old men telling him how to behave, so he loathes his board of directors ordering him to make the public forget he doesn’t have a verbal filter. When his new publicity manager is the almost-fling he never expected to see again, he seizes the opportunity to have fun and still pretend he’s complying with the board’s edict.

Giving in to desire could mean both their jobs, but each “one last time” always leads to another. Now they have to decide what they’re willing to sacrifice to indulge this conflict of interest.

  4. I love books about nerds because I'm one, lol. And yes, getting not so nice feedback on books is not my favourite moments about being a writer. I'm trying to learn to take the criticism as pointers to improve my books for next time. Hard though. I love the blurb for your book!
