The Good of #Ghana – The cocoa

It’s no secret that I love chocolate. When I learned that Ghana was the second largest producer of cocoa in the world, I asked who the first was. It's our neighbor, Cote d’ Ivorrie. I told the informer that we had better start producing more to make us number one.
Cocoa
More than likely the chocolate you are eating or the cocoa butter you are slathering your bodies with to gain a soft, smooth texture came from the wonderful cocoa pods that were grown in Ghana (I’m ignoring the number one producer).

Ghana produces its own chocolate. It’s called Kingsbite by Golden Tree(I think they could be more varied in their production, I have yet to talk to the head of the company, but I’ll be booking my appointment one day).

If you ever get the chance to come to Ghana, try the chocolate. Be warned that the milk chocolate is not soft and yielding, this is because it's packed with cocoa rather than diluted with milk, but when that piece of chocolate hits your tongue, you will know why Ghana cocoa is so sought after. If you want something soft and creamy, go for the chocolate spread. Rich, creamy and eat off the spoon delicious. My mouth is watering just thinking about the yummy goodness.

Cocoa powder and chocolate spread

For those health nuts out there who think I'm going overboard with the chocolate loving, cocoa powder is very healthy drink.

I could talk about chocolate all day, but I’ll spare you. Do you like chocolate? What is your favorite type?

Do you love Chocolate? Me too. My top five favorite chocolates.

Today’s post has nothing to do with romance, and everything to do with chocolate (my truest love). Since chocolate is considered to be a romantic treat, I’m wouldn’t be too far off course if I were to link it with romance. But I think it deserves a post all on its own.
I’ve been trying to figure out what it is about the delectable treat that makes most people so happy. Is it the sugar? There’s sugar in soda, but I don’t get the same need to drool when I think about it. The cocoa?  Perhaps. The endorphin mimicking chemicals? Maybe. Whatever it is that makes chocolate so wonderful I praise the day the discoverer of chocolate was born. His or her birth  should be an international holiday. Seriously.
I am listing my top five favorite chocolates. This was a difficult list to make because, well, I LOVE all types of chocolate. I've listed them in no particular order, that would be a punishment for me to do. And you may notice that I'm not a super expensive type of chocolate eater (Godiva is a little rich for me by way of fundage, but I'll eat it if I get it).
1. Cadbury chocolates of all types (I know I’m cheating because there are a million types of Cadbury, but these people have hit the nail on the head with their formula)

2. Kingsbite (grown and produced in Ghana, it’s sooooo good)

3. Lindt chocolate (I wish I was Swiss)

4. Snickers (you can’t go wrong with chocolate, peanuts, caramel and nougat)

5. Chocolate Bon-O-Bons (make me weak in the knees with pleasure kind of chocolate)

Note:  When I do book reviews instead of stars I like to rate the book with chocolate bars.

What's your favorite chocolate?

Happy Chocolate Day

In Ghana February 14th has been declared National Chocolate Day. Why? If you have to ask why, then you do not appreciate chocolate. If it were up to me every day in my lifetime would be National Chocolate Day. It is to promote the sale of chocolate and other cocoa product according to the GBC.

Ghana is the number two producer of cocoa in the world (Go Ghana! Go Ghana! Grow the cocoa! Oh Yeah! Oh Yeah!) That was my little cocoa song accompanied by a dance which I will not post. Some people get excited about football (soccer), I get excited about chocolate. Our neighbor Côte d'Ivoire is number one (we’ll outgrow them one day).
The cocoa in the chocolate you will be biting into on Valentine’s day may have been grown in Ghana. Mine certainly was.
I have only found one type of chocolate that Ghana produces and it is pictured above (see the star in the middle of the chocolate pieces?). Even though the chocolate is rich and delicious I think they should branch out in the chocolate industry, but they seem to be focused on increasing the GNP (Gross National Product) by exporting as much of the as lovely cocoa as possible, go figure!
Enjoy your chocolate. I’m going to sneak out of work tomorrow to buy a Kingsbite chocolate bar, and perhaps I’ll find one lucky person to share it with (or not- I’m greedy when it comes to my chocolate).
Happy Chocolate Day Everyone! May love abound!
