Don't get distracted by my niece's cuteness factor, back in the day she would've been lethal with that bow. |
For the longest time, I’ve associated being a female with
wearing bows. On dresses, in the hair, on panties, and bras. Bows, bows
everywhere. Whether you were a tom boy, a girly girl, or something in between,
you’ve once, or still do, have bows in your wardrobe.
I hate bows. Never liked them as a child and I don’t enjoy
them as an adult. It used to be that if I bought a piece of clothing with a bow
attached, I’d cut it off. It’s only recently that I’ve stopped the practice.
Why?
After pondering why bows are associated with females, one
light bulb moment came to mind. It’s a weapon. Yes, that’s what my brilliant
brain came up with. Being the physically weaker sex, for the most part, we need
an advantage of some sort.
Imagine as a child wearing a pretty ribbon in your hair tied
up in a nice little bow, then someone comes on the attack, perhaps a boy
pulling your pigtails because he has an annoying inexpressible crush. In the
next moment he’s on his stomach with his hands tied behind his back with your
pretty little ribbon.
I bet in the past, ribbon self-defense and take downs were taught
to our young females. A practice passed on from generation to generation until
for some reason it stopped and the bows became too small to utilize as a
weapon. Darn these modern day bows.
Isn’t that what you came up with when you thought of why
females wear bows?
Ooh, absolutely love your bow theory. I can totally get behind that! I remember liking bows as a kid, but really haven't thought about them much in recent years. Gonna think about them in a new light now, thanks to your post! :P
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be awesome if the theory were true. Bring back the bow self defense.
DeleteI kid you not, that was what occurred to me. To immobilize an enemy or, if the situation is dire, to use as a sort of whip. Not that it would cause injury, but it would disable the obnoxious party, who would be on the ground laughing like a fool.
ReplyDeleteI must say, though, a flash of the eyes from that perfectly darling child in the photo would disable most men I know. They would be charmed to death.
Lol. Diana. Using it as a whip would be hilarious. I agree, my niece is adorable.
DeleteHe-he! Love it! I also wish they'd bring back those bauble things to put in the hair. That would make a lethal weapon. ;) Oh, and they do work better than bows.
ReplyDeleteLol. I didn't even think about hair accessories. They could be used like a sling shot.
DeleteNever liked bows too Nana. You really have a great sense of humour. Laughing so hard at your post.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Celestine. I'm glad I could make you laugh.
