I'm curious. Not only because I want to sell more books, but because I just want to know. Where do you find the books you buy?
- Blog sites
- Friend recommendations
- NYT best seller list
- If you are a review blogger do you only read what is requested of you?
- Do you scroll through the top 100 lists of Amazon or other book sellers
- From promotion companies?
- BookBub
- Fussy Librarian
- Amazon's recommendations (although they like to recommend my book to me a lot)
- Books from your publisher
- Goodreads
- Google plus
Where???
For me if I see a book that I like on a blog site, I'll buy it, especially if the review was good. I also belong to a couple of promotion groups and occasionally I'll review for a blog tour.
Constantine, my fabulous co-book review is great at finding books for us to read for our monthly posts.
What about you?
It depends, other readers review on Amazon for instance, Amazon recommendations since I buy my book from them, they kind of know what I read. I do not very much like Goodread's recommendation, don't ask me why. Book blogs that I follow.....
ReplyDeleteIt's good that Amazon does so well by you, Mary.
DeleteFor me, it's a lot of recommendations whether it be from blog sites or friends or FB groups. Amazon isn't the best of recommendations sometimes. I look at what they do rec and if I'm interested after reading the blurb, I will add it to my wishlist. It also depends of if it's a serial/trilogy etc. Unless I really want to read it, I bypass those. I'm looking for full complete stories.
ReplyDeleteI'm the same about serial/trilogy books. Unless it looks amazing.
DeleteBlog sites but ONLY ones I trust. There are a lot out there I just don't believe their recs. Then what the publishers offer or send for request usually is how I figure out my next read.
ReplyDeleteIt's interesting. I host blog tours, but I don't read all of the books I present. I'm just trying to help get the word out for the author hoping someone else will like it.
DeleteThe book title & blurb nail it from me. Amazon, book blogs, FB etc. If l like the sound of the story and the characters names, I buy!
ReplyDeleteThanks Stella. It sounds like Amazon and book blogs are in the lead.
DeleteGreat question, Nana. I first always ask other people for book recommendations, be it writing buddies, friends, or family. Next I'll go to Amazon for bestsellers and generally won't read anything less than 4 stars because there are so many amazing books out there and so little time. If the first book in a series grabs hold of me, I'm on board for the rest of them.
ReplyDeleteInteresting about the stars. I'm curious to know about if other people thought it was a 3 star book meaning they liked it, but you end up loving it. The whole review system is another question. I try to stay away from series, but if I like the first one, then just like you I have to read them all.
DeleteI guess from recommendations, and reviews. But since I do most of the book buying off line, I browse the various bookshops in Accra and select my pick.
ReplyDeleteI love pulling books off of shelves and reading the back. Stacking them in my arms and debating later which ones I should buy. Good times.
DeleteI read my writer friends' books the most. I also like to do reviews for people and I subscribe to email services like Ebook Soda where they inform you about books on sale or free in your genre. When I get an Amazon voucher, I buy all the books I've been longing to get. Mostly those are things I've seen on a blog post or twitter feed. I also belong to a book club and get to read a variation of books there, but it looks like our group is no longer meeting this year.
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of Ebook Soda. I'll have to check it out. Sorry about your book group.
DeleteThank you Nana for the compliment! I also like to read reviews and buy the book if it interests me. I never heard of Ebook Soda, Kathy. I'll have to look into it.
