N is for Namibia #atozchallenge

To my credit, I heard about this country about five or six years ago, but it surprised me that it took me so long to learn of it’s existence. It came to my attention when the football (soccer) team of Ghana (the Black Stars) had been placed against them in one of the African Cup of  Nations games (or is it called matches? I’m not a huge football fan).

I had a layover in the country’s capital Windhoek when I went to South Africa a couple of years ago. The sand dunes were gigantic as we flew over. I’m sure the country has many other positive things going for it, but those gorgeious dunes left a great impression. I'm sure the rest of the country would have impressed me too if I hadn't been confined to the tiny (and cold) airport layover waiting area.

  3. Those dunes do look amazing. I've only ever seen dunes on English beaches in real life and they're pretty pale and pathetic in comparison :)

    1. Now you had me curious about which part of Namibia you've been to, Corinne. I wonder if it was the airport like me.

  8. I had heard of Nambia before, although I don't know why. It must have been in a book or movie along the way. I love the difference from coast to dessert. Very cool.

    1. I love the name of the country. Instead of making N all about Nana (me), I knew I wanted to give Namibia the spotlight.

  14. Those sand dunes are beautiful. Whenever I see pictures of dunes, I just want to roll down them. Although I know in reality it would be hot and uncomfortable and would probably scratch the crap out of me, they always look so inviting.

Hope you’re having fun with the A to Z challenge,

    1. Lol. Jocelyn. Don't forget all of that sand everywhere. You'd probably spend weeks washing it out of your hair. I'd like to try it once, though.

  16. How pretty! I've seen sand dunes in Utah that are gorgeous as well. Not sure how they'd compare size-wise but they were huge! Thanks for sharing the pictures. I know of the area but have never been. One day maybe :)
