Insecure Writer's Support Group - Short Pencil

A huge thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh for starting IWSG. If you’d like to be supported as a writer then this group is for you. Click on Alex’s name to join. The IWSG co-hosts are Tina Downey, Elsie, Elizabeth Seckman, and Julie Flanders!

I missed last month so I’m making sure that by all costs I’m here for the month of March. Wouldn’t want to be kicked out of IWSG after only four months.

I had something fabulous to post, but I didn’t write it down thinking I would remember, and of course I didn’t. So my earth shattering post is gone, just like all of the story ideas that I thought I’d remember and are now lost to the world. Sorry world, I’ll try to do better next time. At least I wrote that down.

There's a saying when it comes to memories: A short pencil is better than a long memory. What does this mean? Write that s&^t down before you forget.

  1. I love that saying LOL. I'm glad I'm not the only one who forgets things so easily. I could probably solve all the world's problems if I could only remember all of my earth-shattering ideas. ;)

    1. I can only imagine how much better the world would be.

  2. I do a lot of brainstorming before I fall asleep, so if I come up with something good, I force myself to get up and write it down (or usually just grab my phone and write a note). I know I would forget if I just trusted myself to remember.

    1. Sounds like a good idea. Not sure if I could get with the forcing myself to get up part, but I would be better than losing those wonderful thoughts.

  5. Thanks for the chuckle, Nana. And sooo true. I think of great stories and editing while laying in bed at night. Even though I keep a pen and paper next to my bed, I don't want to get up to write them down, and say to myself, I'll remember in the am. And I don't!!

    1. A comfortable bed might be a writer's worst enemy.

  6. When I get a story idea, I pull up my computer, start a new document, jot down everything on my brain, then stick it in my folder of "One-Day-but-probably-never" projects. =) If you run out of ideas, you can have a couple of mine.

    1. That's a good idea, Crystal. I wonder how many of those thoughts you remember you had. At least it's written for you to go back to.

  7. The number of times I have to relearn that lesson!!! Gah!
I have no excuse too because I'm rarely far from a notepad and pen.

  8. That's why I keep a list by my desk - if I don't write it down, I'll never remember.

  9. Ha ha, good one! If I don't write that shit down, it goes *poof*. Especially with three email accounts and two careers. :-)

  10. If you're anything like me, you'll remember what you wanted to post about right after you hit 'publish'... :)

  11. Aaaw... sorry to hear you lost the post. But hey, at least it's not a story that you lost. ;)

  12. Sometimes you just need a little wisdom to create a great blog. This was one of those times, Nana!
