Top 5 reasons for writing book reviews

I was a reader long before I ever started reviewing books. The first book I can remember reviewing online was Most Eligible Bachelor (Men of Distinction Book 1) by Empi Baryeh  in 2013 and I’ve been rocking on ever since.

Why do I review books, you ask? I’ll tell you (even if you didn’t) all in a handy top five list. Just so you know, my reasons are not in chronological order.
  1. It makes me feel like Ms. Oprah Winfrey when I post a review, especially on my blog. Okay so I don’t have as much influence as her (yet), nor do I have a stamp which tells the world that the book belongs in my book club, nor are NYT bestselling authors throwing themselves at me trying to get me to read their books, nor… None-the-less, It makes me feel the teensiest bit powerful, just like Ms. Winfrey.
  2. I get to share my opinions about a book with the world. I’ve had two friends voraciously recommended a series to me at two separate times- The Stephanie Plum stories by Janet Evanovich. When I got around to reading the recommended books and inevitably liked them they gloated. Big time. Sharing is caring right?
  3. I get to support writers who have labored over a story. It’s as if I’m part of their marketing team when I share a review.
  4. It’s fun, especially when the book is extraordinary. The review writes itself because I want to sing its praises to the world. And sometimes people in the world actually listen. When the book is average at best, the fun factor diminishes, but I still enjoy it.
  5. Sometimes, when I desire them and ask nicely, I get free books. Always a plus.

Dear Bloggers

I’d like to take this moment to apologize for not coming to your blogs as often as I used to. Life has gotten so busy, that it’s all about organizing and prioritizing and sometimes you have to make the hard decisions and cut some stuff out.

It’s not that I don’t like coming to your blog for the entertaining or informative things you have to share, because I miss that aspect. It’s all about time.

I do stop over every once in a while, but I usually don't leave a comment to let you know I was there, but I was.

Can I propose that we as bloggers get together and start a demonstration to the governments of the world so that time can be extended? It would work, don’t you think? Time was created by humans so it can be changed by us, too.

Ah, well. Maybe one day.

I’ll keep catching you on the blogosphere, but not as often as I, or maybe you, would like.

See you soon (or not)

Nana Prah.

Box sets…Yay or nay?

I love this series. Unfortunately the bundle
doesn't include
the first book - which is AWESOME.
I love a great bargain and when I buy a box set of books I know I’m definitely getting one. But I have one tiny problem with them. When reading a book in the set it never seems like it’s going to end.

After reading for an hour I’ve only gotten through 2% of the series? What? So it seems to take me longer to read it even though it really doesn’t.

Even when I’m reading the most fantastic books in the world, I’m talking novels that will make me cry when then finish only because they ended, I still want to see that the book won’t go on interminably.

I bought book 1 first. When I fell in love with
it I bought the box set. Best investment ever.
Back in the day, before I got my beloved Kindle (moment of gratitude silence), I had the same issue. While reading I’d always look to see how many pages I had left to read. Not sure if it’s a habit or an aspect of my undiagnosed personality disorder, I’ve extended it to my Kindle reading adventures.
Unless the box set contains a book that I really want to read and I know I’ll read the whole series, then I’ll skip the set and go for the single read.

What’s your opinion? Are you a box set buyer? More importantly, reader?
