Review: Love Notes (Equilibrium Book 1) by Christina C. Jones

The Blurb
Love that says something, instead of just looking like it.

Love you can always trust to feel like home.

For both of them, it’s something that has always been just outside of their peripheral, something to be observed rather than experienced. A depth of feeling reserved for people who were “into” that, those with a different outlook, those more… deserving.

Until their paths cross.

Lines are crossed.

And maybe the stars are crossed too, because the connection and chemistry are so off the charts that they can’t stay away from each other, can’t avoid it... even if they think they should.

My review
The books I have read by Ms. Jones have all been amazing and Love Notes was no exception. After reading the blurb I expected a highly emotional book, which I got, but not in the way I had anticipated. Jules is an amazing heroine. I really liked that she is pure confidence. She believed in herself and her talent and took a risk on showcasing both. She had a past which made her who she is and it was good to see her grow even further.

The passion between Jules and Troy was absolutely amazing. From the moment they first meet, the sparks flew.  They just seemed to belong together, even though they attempted to resist it. The secondary characters were highly entertaining. I’m looking forward to reading a story or two based on them.

My single complaint about the book is that I got a little lost with the slang in the dialogue. I caught up eventually, but it took me out of the story as I tried to figure out what they were expressing. Other than that I found the novel to be absolutely fantastic.

I give this book five out of five camera shaped chocolate bars.

Review: Bending The Rules (The Wright Brothers 3) by Christina C. Jones

The Blurb
Justin and Toni were friends.
Besties, with a whole list of life rules developed over a friendship that started when they were kids. As long as they stuck to the rules, even when they blended a business relationship into the friendship, things went off without a hitch.

But then one of them broke the rules - It was Justin. Justin broke the rules- and Toni has been mad about it ever since.

She’s spent the last several years traveling the globe to cultivate her business, but now she’s back in town. Her only goals? Help her parents with “Mr. Bestseller’s” signing at the store, help them pack up their house to sell, and get out of town without too much interaction with her former best friend.

Mr. Bestseller has different goals.

He broke the rules - no getting around that, and he’s not trying to. His main goal now that Toni is finally home is to get her to hear him out… and get his friend back.

Neither of them anticipated that the rift in their relationship would be the catalyst for seeing each other in a whole different light. But now that they do, they’re wondering if it may be time to make some amendments to those rules.

Or at the very least… bend a few.

My Review
The Wright Brothers’ trilogy has come to an end and I am sad, even though I loved this story. The trope of friends to lovers is one of my absolute favorites. The romance between Toni and Justin was gradual, and very unsure, but perfectly timed. Ms. Jones even threw a bit of a mystery in there by making us wonder just what Justin did to anger Toni to the point of not speaking to him for so long (it was bad).

I enjoyed the aspect that both Justin and Toni were part of the publishing world and highly successful in their own fields. The hero and heroine had a lot in common and conversations about their past experiences had them laughing a lot. It was their present experiences that had me chuckling most.

A fantastic story and series. I give this book five out of five book shaped chocolate bars.

Review: Pulling Doubles (The Wright Brothers #2) by Christina C. Jones

The Blurb
All Devyn wants – besides a tall, fine husband and eventually a few babies to fulfill her “about to turn thirty, running out of time, cute black family” dreams – is to finish her yearlong internship at University Hospital. She’s excited about the experience, eager to learn, glad to help wherever she can… it should be easy, right?

Well, it would be… if it weren’t for arrogant, know-it-all, always-got-something-to-say Dr. Joseph Wright. Devyn can’t stand him, and if his attitude is any indication, the feeling is mutual… or is it?

Joseph doesn’t “do” doctors. Or nurses. Or patients. Or anybody else who has anything to do with the hospital, for that matter. University Hospital has infiltrated enough of his life, and the last thing he needs is a blurring of the lines between professional and private.

… until smart, sexy, sassy Nurse Devyn Echols comes along, and stomps all over those lines.

When you’re pulling doubles with the person you hate to want so bad… something is bound to ignite.

My Review
I salute the person who hooked me up to this series. It is so good. Ms. Jones is a wonderful romance storyteller with just enough, drama, romance, and action to make it all really good. This opposites attract trope was right on point. The annoying Dr. Wright ended up being the sweetest guy and Devyn was a feisty, competent heroine who knew how to handle herself, and Dr. Wright too.

This is a hospital romance which took it there. I’m looking forward to the third book in the series which I bought right after I finished this book.

I give this book five out of five stethoscope shaped chocolate bars.

Book Review: Getting Schooled (The Wright Brothers, #1) by Christina C. Jones

The Blurb
When 26 year old Reese accepts a position as a grad assistant, she has no idea an unpleasant encounter with a student will lead to the discovery of what she calls “the trifecta”: fine, intellectual, and a little bit rude – three qualities she finds irresistible in a man. She has no intention of doing anything with that discovery – nothing long term, at least. But everybody knows what happens to best laid plans.

Jason is a grown man. 28 years old, seasoned and scarred by his real-life experience in the world, he’s at Blakewood State University to finish his degree and move on. The last thing he’s interested in is the female population on campus… but sexy, infuriating Reese might be a notable exception.
This isn’t a story of opposites attract.

More like counterparts clash.

Neither of them is afraid to do battle, and neither is willing to back down. Love and war, win or lose… somebody’s gonna end up getting schooled.

My Review
I loved this story. Reese and Jason are on fire when they’re together. Each with their own life goals, which merge when they meet. Their interactions had laughing out loud. And a couple of “Oh no he/she didn’t” may have slipped out.

I very much enjoyed how Jason story was told with a little bit of drama involved, but not as much as other authors would have given a man in his situation. Jason was one sexy man, with his insightful thoughts, smart ass responses, and gentle kindness.

Reese’s life seems perfect, but it wasn’t. I liked the way Jason helped, even when she overacted to certain situations. Reese could be one rough woman when she put her mind to it. One scene still has me cracking up, but you should know that the people had it coming.

The story was amazing, but I could’ve done without the typos.

I give this book five out of five computer shaped chocolate bars.

Review: A Crazy Thing Called Loved by Christina C. Jones

The Blurb
Simone is a woman on a mission: Stop being boring, and fall in love.

That's easier said than done with no prospects on the table... or under the table... or near the table. Her luck changes when fellow neighborhood business owner Roman Taylor walks through the door of her flower shop.

Roman is single, successful, and sexy — everything Simone is looking for to embark on a whirlwind summer romance with the potential to spark an everlasting love.

But things are never as "perfect" as they seem, and Simone — and Roman — have to decide if they're willing to risk their hearts when things get a little messy in their pursuit of a crazy little thing called love.

My Review
I bought this book as soon as I saw the cover and read the blurb. Then I let it sit on my Kindle for some unknown reason. Only to try to reorder it again when it came into my sphere once again because I really liked it (don’t you hate when you attempt to order books you already own?).

A lovely contemporary romance that added a definitive African American flare to it, such as a small bit of slang, style and a wonderful amount of success.  The book was filled with successful small business owners, which I loved.

Can we say drama? But not in the typical way you might think. Through the well written characters Ms. Jones had us fall in love, get angry, say “Oh, no he didn’t” ( a few times), want to weep for the tragedy that occurs, and then sigh a the happily ever ending. Simone and Ramon have a tumultuous relationship, but it all works out in the end.

I give this book four out of five coffee shaped chocolate bars.
