Spotlight and Giveaway: When I Fell For You by Candace Shaw

GENRE: African American Romance

Candace Shaw is giving away a $10 Amazon/BN gift card.

BLURB:

Has a wedding planner with a commitment phobia finally found the man to make her fall head over heels in love?

Reagan Richardson loves planning extravagant, classy weddings as the head planner of Precious Moments Events. Though the notion of walking down the aisle has never entered her mind … considering none of her boyfriends have ever lasted long enough thanks to her. However, meeting Dr. Blake Harrison changes all of that in a glance and she finds herself in uncharted territory.

Blake knows all about Reagan’s fear of commitment but that doesn’t stop him from pursuing the ravishing beauty. Breaking down the wall guarding her heart isn’t as easy as he thought but being with Reagan has stirred emotions in him that no other woman ever has. Can he convince her that history isn’t going to repeat itself this time around?

Excerpt:

“And you’re going to try parasailing? I’m driving the speedboat.”

The thought of being attached to a parachute high above the ocean while dragged by a speedboat made Reagan nauseous. “I’m still contemplating, but I will go jet skiing with you.”

“Perfect. Can’t wait either way. I don’t care what we do as long as I see your fine bod in a bikini.”

Heat rushed to her cheeks. Blake always knew what to say to make her weak at the knees. Now she had to go shopping to find a sexy new bikini and a cover-up considering it was a family outing. She couldn’t be too sexy.

“You just concentrate on keeping me safe on the jet ski and the parasailing.”

“So, that’s a yes to the parasailing?”

“Mmm … only if you go really slow.”

“I’ll drive at whatever speed you can handle,” he said in a low, deep voice. “Just scream out my name when you’re comfortable and want me to go faster.”

“You have a dirty mind, Doc.” Not that I care.

“What?” he asked in an innocent manner. “That’s your mind in the gutter. Just want to make sure you can handle the excitement and stamina of it all. It’s a very … uh, thrilling adventure.”

“I bet it is.”

“Can’t wait for you to find out.”

“Are we still discussing parasailing?” she asked, crossing and uncrossing her legs. This conversation was causing her to have the urge to jump in the car and speed to his bed where he’d just finished his nap.

“Were we ever talking about parasailing?”

A Passionate Night (The Bennett Triplets) by Candace Shaw #AARomance

The Blurb
Mixing business with pleasure leads to a passionate night.

Harper Bennett’s motto is work hard, play hard. Lately, she’s forgotten the latter and has focused her time as part-owner, along with her brothers, of the hottest nightclub in Atlanta. When an intriguing client enters, Harper forgoes her promise to never date a man that doesn’t live in the same city and she finds herself playing hard to get with Hunter Arrington. The passion that has ignited between them can’t be extinguished, and she dreads the day he has to leave.

Hunter travels the world because of his career and has no intentions of settling down until his eyes land on Harper Bennett. There’s something about the petite, sassy woman that he adores and makes him feel at home for the first time in years. Now he’s faced with a life-changing decision and the thought of being without Harper isn’t an option.

My Review
Hunter and Harper were made for each other. Starting from their instant attraction which lit the page on fire to the way their relationship progressed in such a romantic manner to the sacrifices each decided to make for the other. A lovely romance.

I give this book four out of five cheesecake shaped chocolate bars (you can decide if it should be triangular or square, all I know is that it’s delicious).

A Chase for Christmas by Candace Shaw

The Blurb
Chasing a dream of love

The pursuit of love has always been high on Preston Chase's priority list. But the video game developer has yet to find the soul mate he craves. His sister's best friend—artist and studio owner Blythe Ventura—is a world away from the shallow glam girls who've thrown themselves at him. With her creative spirit and passionate commitment, she's the ideal candidate for his Winter Wonderland project. Too bad she doesn't seem interested in being the one to win his heart.

After a string of dating disasters, Blythe isn't ready to believe in a romantic relationship with Preston. Until their work giving sick children hope and joy for Christmas brings them together—and reveals a very different side of the notorious millionaire playboy. All she has to do is trust in the feelings Preston is awakening and this just might be the year that they both find the happy holiday ending they've been searching for…

My Review
From the moment Preston and Blythe met I knew they’d end up together. I just had to wait patiently for it. Preston, although a player, is a fantastic man. He is generous and has the biggest heart ever. His history is heartbreaking, but it explains why living life to the fullest matters so much to him.

Blythe is a beautiful woman who has been screwed over by a past lover. Her reaction (to stay the hell away) is not a surprise considering what she’s been through. But when they do get together, the slow burn that’s been developing between them over the past year explodes and it is magnificent.

If you want to get into a romantic Christmas spirit then read this story.

I give this book five out of five snowman shaped chocolate bars.

Book Review: His Loving Caress by Candace Shaw #AARomance

The Blurb
Hearts in harmony?

Instead of falling apart when her childhood sweetheart chose his music career over marriage, Elle Lauren fled to Paris to study fashion design. Her stunning wedding gowns now give other brides the happily-ever-after she didn't have. Ignoring Braxton Chase's long-distance apologies has been easy. But meeting him once more stirs the deep longings and desires that a decade has not erased.

Braxton walked away from the pressure to marry at a young age, and he's regretted breaking Elle's heart ever since. From the moment he sees her again at his Atlanta jazz club, he knows he wants more than forgiveness—he wants a second chance at the body-and-soul connection that they once had. Can he convince her to trust the sweet, seductive melody of their lost love?

My Review
I’m still smiling after closing the book yesterday. Such a sweet, romantic story. I’m never sure how I feel about exes getting together, after all they broke up for a reason. I had wanted to dislike Braxton for dumping Lauren at the altar, but I’d already learned to like him from the previous books in the series. Even if I hadn’t read the prior books, I’d still like him. He’s an ambitious, intelligent, musically talented man, but most of all he was remorseful over jilting Lauren all those years ago.

Lauren was a woman of power and class. Instead of pining over her lost love for the past ten years, she made a name for herself in the fashion world. As they say, the heart wants what the heart wants, and Lauren had always loved Braxton, even when he did her wrong by leaving her at the altar.

I liked that the couple had known each other all of their lives and were both genuinely good people. I’ve enjoyed every book in this series and am expecting more.

I give this book five out of five piano shaped chocolate bars.

Review: The Sweetest Kiss (Chasing Love #3) by Candace Shaw #AARomance

The Blurb

Luscious, tantalizing, delectable…and that's just Tiffani Chase-Lake's cupcakes. The moment Broderick Hollingsworth sets eyes on the sexy baker herself, he's truly intrigued. For the first time, the wary real estate developer is ready to open up to someone. Then he realizes that his next business deal is going to leave Tiffani and her cozy bakery high and dry…

Just as hardworking single mom Tiffani is falling for Broderick's easy charm, she learns about the property deal that will destroy her business. Even her most decadent dessert can't eclipse the bitter taste of betrayal. Tiffani's livelihood and her independence are on the line. Walking away from their sensual chemistry won't be easy—but is trusting him a recipe for heartache?

My Review

From start to finish this was a fantastic book. To be honest I was initially drawn to the cupcake on the cover, but when I read the blurb it was a must read. When I learned it was a series I put off reading The Sweetest Kiss and read the two before it. I really enjoyed the twin’s stories, but I’ll admit that this one is my favorite.

I loved that the initial perspective we got was from Broderick (sexy, suave, and rich = delicious man) and how such a normally cool guy could be affected by Tiffany by sight only. The concept of fate flowed through in that scene and I was hooked. It helped that when they did meet the attraction was instantaneous on both sides.

In the first two novels I had gotten a completely different conception of Tiffany’s first marriage than was reality. This aspect added a depth to the story knowing that she’d gone through hard times, pulled through, and made a success out of her life. It brought a wonderful internal conflict to the character which bled into the external one.

I had one tiny issue. In my humble opinion, Tiffany overreacted to some news she’d gotten about Broderick. She cut the lines of communication after accepting the information, and I didn’t care for this. Luckily Broderick was as persistent in his chase after her as he was in his career.

I can’t rave about this book enough.

I give it five out of five cupcake shaped chocolate bars.

Review: Journey to Seduction by Candace Shaw #Romance

The Blurb
All the right moves

Ever since their families were joined by marriage, Sydney Chase has been driving attorney Bryce Monroe crazy. Whether she's in biker gear or stilettos, no other woman can compare. No one else combines tough and tender in such a sexy, irresistible package. Though Syd has him pegged as a spoiled brat, a spur-of-the-moment Vegas road trip is Bryce's one chance to prove otherwise.

As a criminal profiler, Syd's job is to figure people out. Somehow, beyond Bryce's privileged background is a depth she never expected. Their cross-country trek to a motorcycle fest is turning into the hottest ride of her life—one she knows has to eventually end. Yet what happens in Vegas is impossible to forget, and Bryce isn't letting go until he's crashed through every single one of her defenses…

My Review

There’s nothing like an opposites attracts romance. Bryce is amazing – successful, intelligent, cultured, super confident, sexy, and rich (of course I have to mention this), but he also has this compassionate, giving side to him that Sydney never knew existed.  And when she finds out what lies behind the hard lawyer she thought he was, she melts.

Sydney is trying to figure out what she wants in life, which can be difficult, but when temptation is thrown her way it (or rather he) compounds the issue.

The motorcycle aspect interested me. I’m a fan of the machines so I got into the rides they took. Bryce was a very naughty man on one of the journeys, but I won’t spoil that particular journey for you.

Book three is in queue and I'm looking forward to reading it.

I purchased this book from Amazon.

I give this romance four out of five motorcycle shaped chocolate bars.

Review: Her Perfect Candidate by Candace Shaw #MulticulturalRomance

The Blurb
Co-owner of an up-and-coming interior-decorating firm, Megan Chase loves being a single woman on the fast track to success. But everything changes when a flat tire brings Georgia senator Steven Monroe into her life. The sinfully sexy politician needs the right woman to clean up his image. And with Megan's fine eye for detail, she just may be the woman for the job.

Steven's reputation as a player could cost him his chance at a U.S. senate seat. But when the cameras catch him and Megan in a kiss that's all too real, it's not only his future candidacy in jeopardy. As the lines between politics and desire begin to blur, how much will he risk to transform their passionate pretense into a landslide for love?

My Review

I was going to try to write this review without using the word “perfect” but I believe I’ll fail. The way Megan and Steven met was so adorable and I’d have to say perfect. From the beginning Steven was this awesome man that I was rooting for, both in the political arena and in their romance. He was a politician with a heart. Megan was such an ambitious lovely woman that I wanted her to be happy.

Just enough drama, tears, laughter, and good lovin’ to make this novel a fast paced read.

I purchased this book from Amazon.

I give this book four out five tie (yes, neckties) shaped chocolate bars.

Book Review: Cooking Up Love by Candace Shaw

The Blurb

What happens when a suave, sexy chef meets a cute, sassy food critic? When Shelbi Arrington accepts a position as a food critic in the hopes of burying her medical career and foregoing her residency, the last thing she's searching for is love. However, that's just what the doctor ordered especially when she lays eyes on the handsome chef, Justin Richardson. While sorting out her secret conflict of continuing her medical career, she falls for his mouthwatering charm, leaving her hungry for anything he has to offer. Justin is leery of doctors because a doctor's negligence caused his mother's death when he was twelve. He has put his focus and energy into his restaurant, which had been a dream he and his mother shared. Justin is immediately smitten by the cute, sassy food critic that has him cooking up different ways to please her appetite. But when things start to heat up, Shelbi learns of a shocking revelation that could extinguish the flame of their relationship. Will Justin be able to forget his pain and commit to the woman who has stolen his heart? Cooking Up Love is the first book in the Arrington Family Series.

My Review
Sometimes fear can be the driving force in a person making what can be seen from the outside as a ‘weird’ decision. Ms. Shaw demonstrates that very well in this novel. Justin doesn’t exactly afraid of doctors but he has a misplaced anger towards them. While Shelbi is flat full of fear of making a mistake that could end someone’s life, and that’s okay.

Their circumstances don’t stop them from meeting and having an intense attraction towards each other (I loved their first meeting), or building a relationship. But of course a romance being a romance, something has to get in the way of true love, and that’s where the fear and drama comes in.

Ms. Shaw has created a whirlwind of attraction between in two wonderful characters I could really relate to.

I give this book five out of five trolley shaped chocolate bars.
