Writing like a dream exists #multicultural #romance #writing

From my trip to Cape Town, SA

I sometimes wish I was a more creative person but I’m not. Yes I’m a writer and I love the field, but most of my ideas come from people and situations I’ve come across instead of things that are brand-spanking-new.

I write like a dream exists. Have you ever heard that dreams consist of people and things that you’ve already been in contact with? The brain doesn’t make things up when its dreaming. This is what I do when I write. Take things I know and put them into various situations that make for a whole new experience.

I have nothing but the utmost respect for people who can create a world, come up with different types of names, and choreograph scenes that would have never thought to enter my mind. I don’t possess such a gift.

I realize I may not be making the best case on why you should buy my book. I’m not super creative, artistic, or a ground-breaker.  But I can:

1. Take my observations and mix them into a captivating story
2. Add humor
3. Make the reader relate to my characters, finding a piece of herself in at least one of them
4. Transport a person to a land they’ve never visited and have them feel as if they’ve been there
5. Portray romance in the truest sense. In a way that makes a person say, “I want that”

And there you have it.  Creativity doesn’t only show up as the building of grandiose worlds and situations, but can be interwoven into the everyday events of life to make them spectacular within a story.

Great news! Midwife to Destiny is on sale for 99 cents at Amazon and Decadent Publishing.

Blurb

Ghanaian nurse Aurora ‘Ora’ Aikins never expected to find the love of her life while on vacation in South Africa. Engaged to another and believing that love has no place in her life, she returns to Ghana, and puts duty and honor first.

Three years later, Dr. Jason Lartey still can’t get Ora out of his mind or his heart. After learning she never married, he takes a risk and moves to Ghana hoping to rekindle what they started. His sudden appearance in Ora’s Emergency Department sends sparks flying all over again.

They’re in the same country, working in the same hospital, and together but distance creeps between them. Can they make their destined love one for the ages?

  1. 'dreams consist of people and things that you’ve already been in contact with'?? I've not heard of this saying...and if it's true god knows what I've been in contact with to produce some of the dreams I've had (Pink slugs with brains on the outside crawling up from wells, for instance...lol) And yeah, you don't have to be creative to write a book. You just need an idea and the perseverance to see it through :)

  3. What an honest an inspiring post, Nana. And guess what, you are not alone in your thinking, especially when reading a fantastic book, I say to myself, "I will never be able to write a story like this!" And I've read your books---you've captivated me, made me giggle, seen you in your books, was brought to a new land, and want that romance!!

  5. I agree with Cathrina. Oh how many times I've said, "I wish I could write like that!" This note you shared, Nana, is exactly that type of writing--from the heart. That's what connects the reader to the writer, just like you did in this blog. Keep up the good work!
