Z is for Zilch

I must admit that I went to the dictionary for this one. Zilch means nothing and with this I’m thinking writer’s block. The feeling like your muse has abandoned you for someone more talented and so nothing is being written even though you’re fingers are poised on the keyboard ready to write something fantastic. Zilch occurs. The page is blank.

There are a lot of people who have told us what to do if this happens. My favorite piece of advice is to write anyway. Nothing but crap may fill your page, but crap is better than zilch. Crap can at least be edited later to turn it into something better. Writing that crap may get the juices flowing so that the good stuff starts to flow.

Thanks for joining me for The Blogging A to Z Challenge 2013. I had a great time writing the 26 posts. My imagination was stretched and I learned a lot, and in essence that’s all I seek from writing. It was awesome reading the posts from other challengers.

I hope you will continue to join me on my blog for my regularly scheduled posts. Take care and happy reading.

Check out the other blogs participating in the A to Z challenge.

  2. Once you get going something usually turns up on the page. Often it's just getting started that's the problem.

Well done for finishing the challenge!

    1. Thanks mood. It's usually the starting that's the problem. All of a sudden there tends to be so many other things to do other than write.

  3. Your posts are always interesting and insightful, Nana. Good point of writing crap and turning into something good. We must've been on the same wavelength because my post was also Zilch, but I added Zero. Have a good day. It was a busy month.

    1. This would be the second time that we used the same word. That's cool.

  4. I sat down once and wrote about how mad I was that I couldn't write. It worked and soon I had an idea :)

  6. I agree, sometimes you have to just start creating - anything - words, pictures, ideas, whatever, and then the real magic can start to happen.

  7. Good final post. I agree, writing something, anything, is better than nothing. And I often find it gets my writing flowing again.

Will definitely still be checking out your blog now the challenge is over.

  8. Well said. We all suffer from it from time to time, but writing only can help remove it! So write anyway! Good one for Z. And Yay!! for successfully completing the Challenge. Cheers :)
