K is for Koomson, Dorothy (writer extraordinaire)

Last name first makes K legit. Dorothy Koomson has got to be one of my favorite authors of all time.  The woman has made me laugh, cry (I mean gasping for breath, ugly cry), and think about Cupid in a whole new light. I have read all of her books except for two, and one of them is now sitting in my kindle.

What is it that makes me want to lay prostrate at this woman’s feet if I ever met her? It’s her writing style, it’s colloquial and easy to relate to as if her characters are talking straight to me. Her stories are all unique, both from each other and from any other author I have encountered. The characters are multidimensional and I usually end up making another friend by the end of the book.

It is a rarity for me to read the end of the book until I’m actually at the end of the book. I was so tense during two of Koomson’s books that I had to read the end before I could relax enough to go back and thoroughly enjoy the rest of it. This amazed me because I don’t even do that when I read mysteries or suspense novels.

Which book of hers would I recommend? All of them. I can’t pick a favorite because as I mentioned earlier every book is so unique that it’s a whole new experience.

Hats off to Dorothy Koomson for helping us to read our hearts out.

    1. Forgot to name my favorite author. The thing is... I can't name just one and my top list is always changing, but three that remain consistent are Jane Green, Pearl Cleague, and Jane Austen.

    2. Oh my goodness Reese. I have read Jane Green and Pearl Cleage is one of my inspirations, I love her work. I've only seen Jane Austen's work in movies (sad, but true). Thanks for sharing.

  5. I've got a couple of her books but I find it really hard to get into them. I keep putting them down and not returning to them. Perhaps because they are written in Ist person. I'm not a huge fan of Ist person narrative.

    1. She also likes to flip POVs and go back in time. Once you get into the book you will not want to put it down. I'm curious to know which ones you have tried Kiru.
